It's been a couple of months since we worked on our 363-versus-363 small-block engine shootout. In case you missed the first installments, we're pitting a short-deck (8.2-inch) 363 stroker against a 362ci tall-deck (9.5-inch) Windsor.
We intended to bring you the entire dyno test with both engines this month, but we ran out of time. The good news is that our short-deck engine did really well on the dyno. In fact, with 36 degrees total timing and a 650-cfm Holley Ultra HP carb, it made 478 hp at 6,200 rpm. With a 950-cfm Ultra HP and 1-1/2-inch spacer, it made 508 hp--on 93-octane pump gas! Remember, this is the same deck height as the 5.0L in your Fox-body.
We know you've been waiting patiently for these results, so hang tight until next month for the whole story on both engines, including dyno charts, carb swaps, and a side-by-side comparison.
