Though the production numbers of the ’07-current GT500s don’t exclaim exclusivity, they are still loved and respected by most Mustang enthusiasts. The 500-plus pavement-pounding horsepower is enough to bring any enthusiast’s blood to a boil, and its retro styling, six forward gears, and standard LeMans stripes place the Snake in a class all its own.

Most GT500 owners vowed to never make any mods to their beloved Shelby, but only a half-decade after the first one rolled off the assembly line, many have been altered far from factory form. Sure, a few have theirs incarcerated in a climate controlled storage unit, but most use these amazing automobiles for what they were intended—to be driven.

For those who have decided to drive and modify their car, there’s always the struggle of forging one’s own way with a unique look, while maintaining the aggressive but understated package—all without sacrificing the luxury and feel that the GT500 offers. A great way to do just that is to customize your interior.

A slew of aftermarket companies make interior components and accessories to give your Mustang a personalized character, and at the forefront of this movement is aftermarket seat company Corbeau. Our GT500 was destined for a bold custom interior, so we turned the design duties over to Corbeau. Product specialists will hand-cut and hand-sew single seats or an entire interior to your specifications. You can either send your own material, or Corbeau can supply it for you. In our case, we left the material acquisition to the experts. Once everything is removed from the interior, a professional seamstress then covers the Corbeau seats of your choice and upholsters the remainder of the interior according to your order.

Our Shelby received two new Corbeau VX2000 reclining seats, which start at $469 each for cloth versions, and go up in price from there. We had those covered in custom black leather and blue Alcantara, and stitched to resemble the stitching on the stock GT500 seats. We also opted to have our headliner, door panels, visors, shifter boot, and rear seats recovered to match.
