Next install the pickup tube. Using a piece of modeling clay or equivalent, check pickup-to-pan clearance. We used masking tape on the screen as to not push any clay into the pickup tube. With the ball of clay in place, test-fit the oil pan and then remove it. Check the thickness of the clay. There should be between ¼ and 3/8 inches of space between the pickup screen and the pan—ours was exactly 3/8 inch. Depending on application, you may need to bend the tube slightly or modify the windage tray to accept the pickup-tube mounting tab. View Related Article
