2007 Ford Mustang Gt Steeda 10 Rib Setup
"More grip/less slip means more boost," comments Justin Burcham, talking about the move from a 6-rib to the Steeda 10-rib setup. The six-rib pulley arrangement didn't cause us any trouble, but we have heard from different shops, manufacturers, and-of course-on various Internet message boards that it has been a problem. The problem arises when the stock Ford Racing/Whipple pulley is changed to a smaller diameter one in order to increase boost.
One of the tried and true bolt-on items these days is a supercharger, especially in the mod motor market. A supercharger adds more horsepower by stuffing the engine with more air, which when mixed with more fuel-and the proper spark-leads to a severe increase in horsepower.

2007 Ford Mustang Gt Engine
Our '07 Mustang GT test vehicle laid down 458 rwhp in its out-of-the-box trim. Peak boost was recorded at 11.5 psi, which was logged by the chassis dyno's computer system. A vacuum line was run to the dyno's terminal and can be seen in this picture going over the inlet tube.
That was our problem when we slapped a Ford Racing/Whipple H.O. kit onto a '07 Mustang GT (equipped with an automatic). Before the supercharger installation, our test Stang benefited from a modified tune and a Ford Racing cold-air kit. This was our baseline trim, and the Three-Valve produced 265 rwhp. Once the blower was installed, the gang at JPC Racing strapped it to the dyno for more tuning and final horsepower results. We expected the numbers to be fairly decent since the supercharger has Whipple's Gen II rotor internals. Our suspicion was correct-the car made 459 rwhp with the out-of-the-box kit and a custom tune in the computer (which was uploaded using the new DiabloSport Trinity programmer).

2007 Ford Mustang Gt Steeda Heat Exchanger
We added the larger Steeda heat exchanger (front) to help cool off our intercooler water. As Burcham put it, the heat exchanger acts like a mini radiator for the blower intercooler. We didn't see a difference in the IAT on the dyno and we think this is something that is more effective when you are cruising the streets and/or drag racing.
"After discussing it with our trusted partners, we found we were not alone, so we decided to do something about it," commented Aric Pogel, design engineer at Steeda Autosports. The Steeda solution was a dedicated drive system that was tested and flogged on several of Steeda's sponsored race cars and in-house Mustangs before it was approved for sale. Pogel did admit to being vague when answering some of our questions because of some tricks and special engineering that went into the design.

The snout unbolts easily and make sure you have a rag underneath, as some blower oil will drip onto your engine. Luckily, we didn't have to add any oil since such little came out. There is an inspection window on the front of the blower to inspect the oil level.

Here is a comparison of the two snouts, Steeda provides the longer one in order to run the separate blower drive system. The longer snout and pulley requires you to modify your stock hood or you can upgrade to a cowl-induction hood. Our test car was equipped with a Steeda cowl hood, making our install a bit quicker. You can bolt the blower back down once the snout is installed.

The stock balancer (right) checks in at 6.5-inches while the Steeda balancer is smaller for an underdrive effect with the stock accessories. A separate blower pulley bolts to the Steeda balancer and that measures 5-inches in diameter.
