Ny-Trex's Triple-Threat nitrous...
Ny-Trex's Triple-Threat nitrous oxide system for 2005 and newer Mustangs comes with everything you'll need short of the nitrous itself. The 10-pound high-flow bottle can be had in black (shown) or a venomous bright green.
It's a common thread among Mustang enthusiasts that going fast is fun. Letting the ponies run wild can be an exhilarating feeling, and there's no easier way to get your thrill than to bolt on a nitrous oxide injection system. Ny-Trex now makes it easier than ever to add 50-150 hp to your S197 Mustang.
The core of Ny-Trex's Triple-Threat nitrous oxide injection system is its billet-aluminum body and integral solenoids, which make for a clean and simple installation. Ny-Trex uses high-quality components for reliability and optimum performance, and claims to offer the most reliable wet system on the market.
The number one rule when using...
The number one rule when using nitrous oxide is no Teflon tape. Ny-Trex supplies a tube of Teflon paste to seal the pieces together. Teflon tape can get into the lines and has been known to stick open a solenoid or two, killing an engine in short order.
The Triple-Threat system includes the integrated solenoid block; a 10-pound nitrous bottle with a high-flow valve; braided stainless steel supply lines; quick-clamp bottle brackets; mounting and wiring hardware; all electrical components; a 15-amp microswitch; a T-Rex nozzle; and jetting for 50, 75, 125, and 150 hp.
To find a suitable test subject, we turned to the capable hands at Hurricane Performance in Orange Park, Florida, which provided us with one Tanner Suman and his '05 Mustang GT. Suman's GT was equipped with numerous bolt-ons, and laid down a stout 307 hp and 321 lb-ft of torque on its baseline dyno pulls. Hurricane's Jason Combs and Jason Wells handled the installation with ease, and in short order, we loaded the GT onto the TunersInc Dynojet next door to try and improve on the Three-Valve's naturally aspirated output.
The bottle is mounted in the...
The bottle is mounted in the trunk, and thankfully, you don't have to keep an eye out for the gas tank when drilling as it's mounted under the rear seats on the S197. Still, plan out your mounting holes and then drill carefully.
If this is your first nitrous system, you should start with the 50hp jets until you are suitably skilled at handling the instant 50hp increase in power. Then you can step up to the 75hp jets, which is where we started.
After purging the system and going wide open in Fourth gear, the results came in at 361 hp and 397 lb-ft of torque. That's an increase of 54 hp and 76 lb-ft of torque-at the wheels.
Next, we stepped up to the 125hp jets, and found that we needed to reduce the gap on the spark plugs. One thing to keep in mind is that the factory plugs are prone to breaking into three pieces upon removal, and that can turn into a lengthy ordeal. Luckily for us, the Hurricane crew was able to pull all of our plugs without issue. If you're going through the trouble of gapping the plugs to run a bigger shot of nitrous, you should order a new set of plugs that is one heat range colder than stock.
With the new gap set to 0.032 inch, the '05 GT spun the rollers once more, churning out 389 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque for gains of 82 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. Calculating for a suitable drivetrain loss, we'd say the power estimates are right on for flywheel horsepower and torque. One thing is for sure, with a power improvement like this, the next ride in your Ny-Trex equipped Mustang is sure to be an exhilarating one.

Once your bottle location...

Once your bottle location is set, you can trim the carpet accordingly. Make sure you strap down the bottle with the label facing up to ensure the pickup tube in the bottle is pointed in the correct direction. We like the quick-clamp bottle brackets and liquid-filled pressure gauge.

The nitrous supply line is...

The nitrous supply line is run through a hole in the trunk and inside the rear wheelwell. Near the shock, there is a factory bracket in which you can lay the line, then route it through this brake line bracket.

We ran the supply line along...

We ran the supply line along the framerail and secured it with these clamps, which aren't supplied in the kit.

The aluminum fuel adaptor...

The aluminum fuel adaptor is next and fits between the factory fuel pressure sensor and the fuel rail.

To supply the fuel solenoid...

To supply the fuel solenoid with 93 octane, Ny-Trex includes a length of rubber fuel-grade hose, along with the proper end fittings.

One end of the rubber hose...

One end of the rubber hose is attached here to the fuel pressure adaptor on the rail.

The other end of the rubber...

The other end of the rubber hose is routed to the fuel-in port on the solenoid block and attaches to this fitting, which houses the fuel pressure safety switch.

Make sure the tip of the nozzle...

Make sure the tip of the nozzle is facing the right direction before you bolt the elbow back on.

We installed the 75hp jets...

We installed the 75hp jets (using the included jet card) to start our test.

The Ny-Trex T-Rex nozzle is...

The Ny-Trex T-Rex nozzle is mounted in the bottom of the intake elbow to make sure it shoots straight into the center of the throttle body. Installing it into the side of the elbow will only provide nitrous to one throttle blade, which could lead to distribution problems inside the intake.

Hurricane's Jason Combs likes...

Hurricane's Jason Combs likes to use this panel inside the center console compartment to mount the nitrous switchgear. This is a simple-to-replace $15 part from the Ford dealer if you ever decide to pull the nitrous system off of the car. It sure beats drilling holes in the dash or console. Here you can see the Ny-Trex arming switch and purge button have been mounted in the panel prior to wiring.

Connect the nozzle to the...

Connect the nozzle to the solenoids using the provided braided stainless steel lines in the kit.

Our subject vehicle, which...

Our subject vehicle, which belongs to Tanner Suman, is an '05 model thaat features a number of bolt-ons, including this JLT cold-air intake setup, and now, a Ny-Trex Triple-Threat nitrous oxide system.

The relay for the solenoids...

The relay for the solenoids is mounted to the shock tower in the engine compartment using a hole in the sheetmetal that was already available.

We tapped into a 12-volt switched...

We tapped into a 12-volt switched power source in the console to trigger the entire system. The arming switch receives the signal first, and then triggers the purge button, full-throttle switch, and fuel pressure safety switch en route to the relay for the solenoids.

A factory chassis ground point...

A factory chassis ground point was used to ground the solenoids.

The nitrous controls are cleanly...

The nitrous controls are cleanly hidden under the console lid.

The full-throttle activation...

The full-throttle activation switch is mounted to the gas pedal lever using the factory bolt. One wire is routed back to the arming switch and the other to the fuel pressure safety switch.

Purging the nitrous will make...

Purging the nitrous will make sure you get a consistent hit of nitrous oxide on every pass. Here, Tony Gonyon of TunersInc is purging the system (left) prior to a dyno pull. With the 125hp jets, we saw an increase from 307 rwhp and 321 lb-ft of torque to 389 rwhp and 461 lb-ft.

The purge line is next, and...

The purge line is next, and Ny-Trex provides a decent length of tubing to vent the gas to the atmosphere. We routed ours to the cowl area.

Hurricane Performance provided...

Hurricane Performance provided us with the nitrous oxide to perform our tests. It has a top-notch pumping system that can fill your bottle without the half-day wait for it to chill in the freezer.

Bolt the bottle back in the...

Bolt the bottle back in the car and attach the nitrous supply line.

On the higher horsepower setting,...

On the higher horsepower setting, we found that we needed to reduce the gap on the spark plugs. Hurricane recommends stepping down to one heat range colder on the plugs as well.
