The 400M factory exhaust manifolds were ditched in favor of 1 7/8-inch Hooker Super Comp headers feeding 18-inch collector extensions. On the dyno, the two-barrel 400M proved why it was employed for heavy lifting and not maximum straight-line performance by posting peak numbers of just 265 hp and 412 lb-ft of torque. Torque production exceeded 400 lb-ft from 2,000 rpm to 3,200 rpm. Though our motor was equipped with an electronic ignition, we ran all testing with a Ford distributor pirated from a 514 Ford Racing crate motor. View Related Article
