Building 400hp Into A 5.0L Small-Block Engine - Down-Low 5.0
|
The combination of the Pro Comp 210 (as-cast) aluminum heads, TFS Track Max cam, and Funnel Web intake literally transformed our wrecking yard wonder. Originally rated at 225 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque in fuel-injected form, the carbureted 5.0L pumped out 399 hp and 363 lb-ft of torque. While a 400hp 302 is not exactly ground breaking, the fact that we were able to build this motor for $1,064 is pretty impressive. Especially when you consider the fact that this included the cost of the motor! Torque production from the 302 exceeded 300 lb-ft from below 3,000 rpm to redline, and managed to exceed 350 from 4,600 rpm to 6,000 rpm. There is certainly more potential in the Pro Comp heads, but wilder cam timing would likely require notching the pistons. View Related Article
