Paxton Self-Lubricating Centrifugal Supercharger - Self Serve
The height difference between the two spacers is not severe but is required. These spacers are used to mount the head unit's main bracket. On the left is the eight-rib spacer, with the six-rib on the right. The new spacer is shorter because the idler pulley is thicker.
The '03-'04 Cobra idler was installed with the spacer screwed in place.
We took out the electric fan as it was easier to remove and install the crank pulley.
A puller is required to remove the crankshaft pulley. We used a three-arm piece that locked on to the center. It pulled off without incident.
The replacement crank pulley slid into place easily. We tapped it gently into place using a soft hammer. We tightened the pulley with a wrench and then used an impact gun to make sure it was tight.
All the pulleys and brackets have been installed and spaced properly. Now we're ready to drop in the new NOVI SL. The supercharger is designed to fit existing brackets for those who want to step up to a larger Paxton NOVI blower or replace their oil-fed unit.
Paxton supplied the NOVI SL with a six-rib pulley. We replaced it with a slightly smaller eight-rib pulley. Boost remained the same as the six-rib setup because the Cobra crank pulley was smaller. Overall blower-impeller speed remained the same as stock.
The new pulley slides on to the shaft, and we used an impact gun to tighten it down.
The NOVI SL goes on easily, and with a few more bolts and a minor adjustment, the unit is ready for action.
The Inlet piping goes back on. We'd like to change the crazy bends leading into the blower inlet-hopefully, someone comes out with a cold-air kit to straighten out the flow to the blower. Franco has expressed interest in converting to a blow-through MAF sensor arrangement and sticking a filter on the blower directly. The biggest obstacle is the electric fan shroud.
Because we'll be increasing boost, we needed to add a DiabloSport MAFia. This piece extends the voltage readings on factory MAF sensors, helping increase the horsepower range of the sensor.
Output remained the same between the two blowers-476 rwhp and 417 rwtq. The eight-rib pulleys helped the belt retain traction and kept the boost curve smooth. Job Spetter Jr. of Turbo People kept the tune the same for this test. He will make adjustments once Franco adds a smaller blower pulley to produce a Corvette-killing 17 psi of boost.
