Installing A nitrous system on your '05-up Mustang can be fun and rewarding. Nitrous has become a time-honored tradition in the Mustang world-how could it not with its low price, ease of installation, and outstanding power gains? Our test vehicle picked up 78 hp at the rear tires while using the 75hp jet settings.

The Stock Three-Valve was good for 269 rwhp and 296 rwtq. Modifications were limited to a JDM cold-air kit, custom tuning, and an after-cat exhaust system. Our test Mustang was equipped with the factory automatic transmission.
S197 Ford Mustang Nitrous Kit Install Mounting The Bottle
Lacko yanked the carpet out of the trunk and mocked up the nitrous bottle and brackets. He ensured the bottle placement allowed the bottle to be removed and installed effortlessly. He also made sure the screws could be drilled in place without hitting anything critical on the underside of the trunk.
S197 Ford Mustang Nitrous Kit Install Nitrous Solinoids
The Heart of the nitrous system is the solenoids: one for nitrous and one for fuel. The solenoids hold the nitrous and fuel back until the brain of the nitrous kit sends a charge and opens the solenoids. Once that happens, the nitrous and fuel flow to the nozzle and are injected into the intake tract.
S197 Ford Mustang Nitrous Kit Install Switch Panel
NOS Provided a replacement panel for the dashboard for ease of mounting the on/off switch. Our test vehicle has the optional premium package, which includes these dashpanel buttons. JDM tech Shaun Lacko was forced to find another location for the arming switch. As you will see later, it was conveniently and cleanly installed in the cigarette lighter location.
S197 Ford Mustang Nitrous Kit Install Window Switch
One Of the major differences between '05-up Mustang EFI systems and others is this innocent-looking box. It is a window switch that allows the nitrous to only turn on at a minimum of 3,000 rpm and then off at 6,000 rpm, provided there's a TPS minimum voltage of 4.3 volts. The window switch is required due to the drive-by-wire throttle-body arrangement. With no throttle cable linkage on the throttle body, there's no way to rig up the traditional WOT micro switch.
