Mustang Forced Induction Install - Feeling the Pressure
Dyno Results
Final power numbers are 476 rwhp and 417 rwtq at a peak boost number of 13.34 psi. Power climbed steadily, and as expected, it was a linear curve. As rpm increased so did boost, and the power followed right along with it. This mostly stock Mustang GT now makes more horsepower than the Shelby GT500 and costs a lot less!
Initial dyno pulls with 11 psi generated 487 rwhp and 492 rwtq. Spetter upped the boost, and with 13.7 psi, peak boost output jumped to 521 rwhp and 497 rwtq. The torque curve is very aggressive thanks to maximum boost being achieved by 3,000 rpm. The long, flat curves mean this Saleen will take on Shelby GT500s and Corvettes with ease. The street tune has a maximum of 14 degrees of timing.
Sorby wanted more, so a few clicks on the controller and the result was 17.89-psi peak boost and 570 rwhp and 561 rwtq. The Saleen was running 5 gallons of VP Fuel C-16 (116 octane) and 94-octane Sunoco pump fuel. The engine is stock, and we were surprised it hung in there for a few dyno pulls at those power levels. That is a tribute to the tuning, as there wasn't a hint of detonation.
The final piece to the puzzle is a tube that attaches to the throttle body.
Air enters the blower via a 180-degree elbow that is attached to the MAF sensor and air filter. With some ingenuity and fabricating, a forward-facing pipe could be made that would definitely increase boost and airflow to the supercharger.
The stock MAF sensor is removed from the factory inlet and inserted in a larger-diameter housing from Paxton.
A Ford GT pump was supplied with the kit, and Paxton has step-by-step instructions on how to piggyback it to the factory fuel pump. We elected to add a set of 60-pound injectors to eliminate fears of running out of fuel if a pulley swap or headers were added to this car.
The fuel pump drops right into the access hole to the fuel tank. It is located underneath the rear seat.
John Franco's '06 Mustang is mostly stock save for some bolt-on items and the Paxton H.O. kit.
