We had to slightly modify the K-member in two areas to clear the headers.

Check out the trick merge cone in the Kooks collectors. This reduces turbulence and improves exhaust speed and flow.

After removing the driveshaft, disconnecting the wiring harness and speedometer cable, and taking off the shifter handle, the five-speed slid out without much drama.

We installed the Kooks headers and X midpipe prior to our transmission swap so we could baseline the car with the bigger headers.

Next up was the clutch, flywheel, and pinion bearing. We won't be using the pinion bearing with the automatic, and there's no need to leave the greasy thing in there.

Watson ordered up this SFI flexplate from PA Perform-ance. A little Loctite on the bolts and we were good.

One mod that needs to be made to the transmission case is the removal of this ear, which is used in some truck applications. We used a Sawzall, but a cut-off wheel will probably work, too.

The output shaft sensor reveals output shaft speed to detect trans slippage.

The vehicle speed sensor hole used for older cars is plugged with this cap.
