Whipple's intake serves as a mounting plate for the blower case, and allows for installation of an optional intercooler, as well.

In order to install the blower, the stock intake manifold has to be removed.

Whipple's water crossover replaces the factory unit that routes under the intake manifold. The Whipple unit has to flow the water above the manifold for clearance reasons.

The factory alternator is reinstalled with additional bracing for the lower mounts. The production version of the Whipple package will also include additional braces for the upper mounts of the alternator.

Spinning the supercharger requires adding Whipple's idler pulley and brackets.

The Whipple intake manifold replaces the stock unit and serves as a mounting surface for the blower case.

The blower case fits right onto the new intake manifold.

The stock injectors (24 lb/hr) are replaced with Ford GT injectors rated at 36 lb/hr (at right). Note the two extra holes on the tip of the Ford GT injector for increased fuel flow.

The factory spark plugs also have to be exchanged for those with zero heat range in order to prevent detonation under boost (the stock ones have a number-two heat range.) Cooler is better when increasing boost levels, so the stock 180-degree thermostat is also replaced with a 160-degree unit.

The Whipple air intake (left) is larger than stock. Also, the air-filter box is designed with a venturi effect to speed up flow through the mass air sensor.

With 10 psi, the Whipplecharged 4.6 Three-Valve put just about 490 hp to the rear tires. With 11 psi, it cracked the 500 barrier, settling in at 504.32.
