This Ford EFI fuel pressure regulator was used in early return-flow systems. Any excess fuel in the rails was bypassed back to the tank. Fuel pressure was controlled by a calibrated spring/diaphragm in the regulator, which was then adjusted as intake manifold pressure (vacuum) changed to maintain a constant pressure drop across the injectors.
