Thanks to the combination of parts from Anderson Ford, Coast High Performance, Vortech, JDM Engineering, and a few others, our '01 GT is a real screamer, producing well over 700 hp at the crank and 620 hp at the wheels. Based on our e.t., trap speed, and weight, we'd estimate about 750 crank horsepower!

The Power Pipe is huge. It increases the airflow into the engine when compared to the inlet supplied in the original blower kit.

One last look at the CHP 300-cube short-block. Our engine is 0.020-inch over, and it has a 3.750-inch-stroke crank and Probe pistons.

The Vortech T-Trim is a bad daddy. We initially lost boost, even when swapping from the SQ to the T-Trim due to the extra cubes, but we made it up with the Power Pipe. This shows how important the combination is as a whole.

A lack of fuel flow caused a lean condition, which limited the horsepower our new 300-inch CHP stroker could produce. We solved this by upgrading the fuel system in Project Ice Box.

With the adequate fuel flow, D'Amore was able to get back to the business of making power. The dyno graph shows that the 300-incher is making 621 hp at the rear wheels and 541.99lb-ft of torque. This equates to an estimated 730 flywheel horsepower and an amazing 2.44 hp per cubic inch.

While dyno numbers are great, we wanted to enjoy the power and find out how much improvement there would be at the strip. Our first runs were made on Nitto Extreme Drag 18-inch tires-the same ones employed on our 22-mile-one-way daily commute.

While the Nitto tires provided excellent bite, we wanted to try a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets. The car actually hooked better on the M/Ts, but the extra height killed a bit of the gear and we couldn't realize the full potential of the extra traction. The 60-foot time improved from a 1.807 best with the Nittos to a 1.653 with the ET Streets. If we were going to continue using the M/Ts, we'd switch back to 4.10 gears.
