1986 Ford Mustang LX Rear Side Lift
These guys are not named Magnus and Lars and this is not our version of the World's Strongest Man Competition. Instead, it's just Frightning living up to its scary name. The 5.4 Lightning engine conversion has left the former four-cylinder LX so nose heavy that the guys at JDM Engineering were able to lift the rear of the car off the ground with relative ease.

1986 Ford Mustang LX Underhood Brake Master Cylinder
We thought about installing a master cylinder designed for manual brakes, but each one we found had the lines exiting on the engine side and considering the close proximity of the valve cover we were forced to stick with the unit already in the car.

According to Mark Constantine at Autofab Race Cars, the ideal pedal ratio for manual brakes is 6:1. Most factory power brakes range between 3:1 and 5:1. You can see how we moved the pin up on the brake pedal. This increases the pedal ratio and also increases the leverage the driver has.

Shortening the upper control arms will cause the rear to angle down. It only took 3/4 of a turn to give us -3 degrees of pinion angle.

Keep in mind this adjustment must be made with the car sitting on the ground or with jackstands under the rear housing and the front control arms so the vehicle is at normal ride height. In addition, check the clearance between the tires and the fender lips if you shorten the upper control arms.
