Another type of collector that increases scavenging is the merge collector. In a merge collector the header tubes (four in a V8) neck down at a 15* angle to form one pipe. The purpose of this is to increase the exhaust gas pressure in the pipe. Then the pipe expands rapidly to open up and allow the gasses to increase in velocity. View Related Article
