I have a 99 mustang GT. Ive done nothing major to it yet just put a exhaust on and a cold air intake. I work at Summit Racing and I am looking at chips and programmers. And i have no idea what actually works I've Been told the TrickFlow Programmer would be my best bet. But I would appreciate it if u guys could Give me some advice lol. Thanks!

I am looking to get a new toy and would like some opinions.I am looking to get either an 03/04 cobra or a 2012 Mustang GT.If i got the cobra would do pulley,tuner,filter,exhaust.If i got 2012 would only be able to do same bolt ons as the cobra because of the price of the car.I know the cobra is going to make more power but wanted to take other factors in to account like handling,comfort,fun to drive factor,etc.. to decide which one would be better over all car.When you consider the cobra will have more miles and not knowing how those miles have been driven but will be cheaper.Or would you rather have the 2012.The car will be a daily driver but only about 20 miles a day,very little strip,will play on the street some.Just would like some other opinions.

In the past, Mustang and Fast fords have published some very good articles on testing 5.0 efi intakes, such as the Super Intake Shootout in Nov. 2010 edition. However, in past issues there wasn't much covered about EFI intakes for 351w based engines. I'm actively researching the best intake for my street 408w and there are finally some to choose from. Currently, I'm looking at the Edelbrock RPM II (7185), Edelbrock Performer (with 3884 base), Victor 5.8 (3887), Edelbrock Universal (29245), TFS R-Series (TFS-515L0004 base with 70mm, 90mm, and Box uppers), the GGT40 with Lightning base, CPR Spyder (2101-11595), and any others that I can dig up before my build. Can anyone refer me to any articles that utilizes or compares any of these intakes on the dyno?

welcome to the forums... there are 4 mustang and ford specific magazines here.. but only a few articles on the 2300 motors.. there are a few over in the circle track and stock car racing magazines as those are used in mini stock.. the cost of converting your engine to turbo is going to exceed the price of a good running SVO turbo 4 mustang. or a 87/88 thunderbird turbo coupe.. your 4 cylinder mustang is capable.. of really decent fuel economy.. 87 to 91 mustang GT 5.0 cars are coming way down in price lately.. that is the quickest way to performance.. or an SVO turbo model.. or one of the thunderbird turbo coupe.. the engine for the turbo models looks identical... but it has a slightly different block... with drain back holes for the turbo.. forged crank.. forged rods.. forged pistons.. lower compression .. thinner rings.. intercooler usually.. 87 thunderbird turbo coupes are really coming down in pricing.. i just tool a look and i saw one at 1500 bucks... the automatic versions are limited to 120MPH.. the 5 speed versions will run up against the speed limiter at 143MPH.. been there .. done that.. what a BLAST.. be sure you have speed rated tires on it... 91 or 92 ranger 2.3 cams have been swapped in for increased power...

I am looking for some engine builders input on this issue I am having trying to get the head changed. I know this is not mustang but thought maybe someone might have some insight. Alright, so I still am having major issues here so hopefully someone can at least point me in the right direction. After the second issue with the rear passenger side plug I decided to replace the head, the cracked exhaust manifold and leaking head head gasket on the passenger side. After getting everything reassembled which seemed to be OK I started turning the crank by hand and sure enough it stopped dead. Turned crank the opposite way it went about 320 degrees before stopping again. I assumed I either timed it wrong or had jumped so apart it came. It appears that my timing is dead on but figured I will re time again. Problem is I cant get the crank to roll over more than 320 degrees in either direction. I cant get the drivers side back to its timing location. Assuming it was hitting a valve I went ahead and turned the passenger cam some so as to close the valve it was hitting. I have rotated that cam 360 degrees and still can not move the crank beyond its 320 degrees. Has anyone ever had a re manned head come in contact with a piston? I have a hard time believing it is the drivers side since nothing was ever touched over there. I removed all the plugs on the re manned head but still cant turn the crank. Anyone have any ideas? This thing is getting really frustrating.

came to the car turned it on and notice that the car would not turn off and the ignition lock seemed loose i pull the key out and the car is still running, i removed some fuses, this shut off the car, when i put the fuses back in the car, it is automatically on, not running but on and without the key in. i changed the ignition lock with no luck, also unpluged the ignition switch which turns off the car partially (radio and other things still on) but once it is plugged again it is automatically back on. i could try to change the switch but it seems to me like maybe a hot wire is giving the signal to the car to stay in the on mode, i have a no idea how to use the multimeter to check for hot wire and not sure if that is the issue. if this is an electrical problem i wanted to at least figure out whats wrong before sending to the mechanic. any idea what could possibly be wrong?

I have a 2007 mustang gt and i am looking to upgrade my preformance. I am new to my mustang and don't know much at all.I was thinking of putting a supercharger in it but i don't want to run more then 10 lbs of boost. My idea in general is to increase my hp by 150 and still keep the streetablity. right now i do not want to do anything to the shocks or tires. I also do no not want to replace pistons rod or rings or do any thing like that to the motor till later. I have heard that when you keep your boost level down around 5 that you will not have to do anything internally to the motor.It seems to me that everything you add is direct cause and effect. if you do this than you have to do that. I was planning on putting a new exhuast system in w/long or short tube headers depending on if the longtubes fit and a x pipe. Also adding 3.73 gears. I am just wondering what you guy's think i should do to achieve my goal and If I add a supercharger, 3.73 gears, and exhaust what else is should do? If i have to do stuff to the motor or tranny to get reliability let me know. Also what type of supercharger? thanks.

Just did a quick search of the forum and didn't find anything right off on this bass ackwards swap: I just had a customer limp in a Marauder that he's had a 4.6 SOHC installed in to. I got my '90 LX hatch from the body shop just after Christmas. Some fool had backed into it and trashed the passenger door, so it was replaced. Just the other day I had a friend ride with me, and I noticed that the passenger door squeaked while closing. I looked at it and saw that the door roller (the little plastic barrel that stops gravity from closing the door on an incline) was missing. Since the part was cheap, I decided I wouldn't bother taking it back, and do it myself. The way the hinge hinge is designed, it won't allow the roller's pin to go in, as any vertical path is blocked with the door open. Is there any way to put it in with the door still on the car? Maybe take out the inner fender to get access?

bigjohn081 welcome aboard. I hope the aluminum driveshaft was installed for a performance advandage,and not the bucking. The bucking is caused by too high a transmission gear for the load on the engine. It's also called lugging, too high a gear for the amount of work the engine is trying to perform. The best thing to do is to use a lower gear in the transmission. If it's (Bucking) in 4th gear drop it down to 3rd or 2nd. It's just a matter of feel for the gearing and engine RPM. You don't want to lugg the engine it will do damage to internal parts of the engine,transmission,and rear-end. :grin: :cool: Couple things can cause this. 1. If someone changed the cams, that puts the engine in another RPM operating zone. 2. If someone changed the rear gears,went lower numerically but higher in gear. For example: removed a 3:90 gear and installed a 2:90 these are extremes,but make a point. Thanks Bob

I just got my car back from the body shop, 2005 4.6 3v gt. After having a deer mash the front up. My car was check over and showes no signs of eng damg from the crash but its not as loud, like something is stuck in the exshaust but the pipes show no damg. My question is in the crash the radiator was punched and most of the coolant leaked out just after the crash, is it possible that the heat wasnt able to disapate properly and has caused one of my heads to warp? there is no oil in the coolant and its not smoking as if it was burning oil, and oil levs look good after driving. No eng lighs are on but theres a def valve chatter at idle and under a load. Or could it be that its just got knocked out of tune from the impact, I hit at about 55-60 mph.

just curious.. since ford EEC4 systems DO NOT give you live data stream to look at... have you build a injector wiring extension.. with parts from a conventional fuel injector connector and the matching other side from a saab or volvo mid 90s in the junk yard.. so you can use your more than basic automotive digital volt meter to monitor the injector pulse width.. building or tapping into the air flow meter harness to see the air flow voltage output.. tapping into the oxygen sensor signal return to allow you to see what the oxygen sensors are doing with a cheep narrow band air fuel ratio display.. .??? i am taking that you have some way to run a KOEO test and a KOER test.. or figured a way to upgrade to a 96 computer that might be able to be programmed and give you live data stream via the OBD2 port and an OBD2 scan tool.. after the injector swap.. did any ground wires that got disconnected.. get hooked back up... can you bring the RPMs up.. and then back off slowly.. let the oxygen sensors come info operation so the computer will learn the new fuel trim... you did not mention what size injectors up went up from.. you might want to call the supplier.. ask them..

I HAVE A 1997 PROBE GT V6 AUTOMATIC, I WANT TO INSTALL THE 2011 FORD EDGE 3.5 LITER V6 ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. MY DAUGHTER BLEW THE ENGINE AND MY SONS WANT TO INSTALL MORE POWER. I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE THIS ENGINE AND TRANS. I WANT TO USE THE OBO BOX FROM THE 2011/12 MUSTANG V6 TO AVOID REFLASHING THE BRAIN BOX. I NEED THE EXACT OUTSIDE DIAMENSIONS FOR THE 2.5 V6 AND THE 3.5 V6 ENGINES AND TRANSMISSION DIAMENSIONS FOR EACH TRANSMISSION.
