The analysis would consider a variety of issues including tailpipe and evaporative emissions, impact on OBD systems, materials compatibility and fuel efficiency.

 The U.S. House Science Committee approved a bill (H.R. 3199) directing the National Academy of Sciences to conduct a scientific assessment on how gasoline blended with 15 to 20 percent ethanol (E15 and E20) may impact gasoline-powered engines, vehicles and related equipment.  The analysis would consider a variety of issues including tailpipe and evaporative emissions, impact on OBD systems, materials compatibility and fuel efficiency.  The National Academy of Sciences would have 18 months to conduct its analysis. HR 3199 will now be considered by the full House of Representatives.

• H.R. 3199 acknowledges that E15 causes corrosion with incompatible parts.  Ethanol increases water formation which can then create formic acid and corrode metals, plastics and rubber.  The EPA allows use of E15 in 2001 and newer vehicles, but agreed to make it "illegal to fuel pre-2001 vehicles" with E15.  A required warning label on the gasoline pump will not protect consumers from accidentally misfueling these vehicles/engines.
• H.R. 3199 recognizes that E15 is not yet in the marketplace.  It is still the subject of several lawsuits and Congress could enact legislation to block the sale.
• H.R. 3199 prevents the EPA from permitting the sale of E15 before the report has been submitted to the House Science Committee.
• H.R. 3199 potentially protects millions of vehicles and engines that can be harmed from E15.  The EPA was premature in permitting the sale since it is still unclear how E15 impacts tailpipe and evaporative emissions, OBD systems, materials compatibility and fuel efficiency.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star AJ Allmendinger drove the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian Ford / Riley Daytona Prototype entry to the win.  It was an epic battle over the final two hours between three Ford DP entries in one of the most competitive Rolex 24 events in recent memory.

 Allmendinger traded the lead with Michael Shank Racing teammate Felipe Nasr (No. 6) and pole sitter Ryan Dalziel (No. 8) in the Starworks Motorsport Ford / Riley over the final hours - even in the light of being placed in the car for a stout 3-hour stint to anchor the No. 60's driving chores to the checkered flag finish.
 
Dalziel finished second while Nasr took third in clearly the greatest day of sports car/road racing performance history at Roush Yates. Allmendinger's margin of victory was 5.198 seconds over Dalziel.
 
When the media seemingly and rightfully tagged the BMWs and Corvettes as the teams to beat in the 14-car DP division, Ford /Riley and a team of engineers, technicians, and assemblers at Roush Yates Engines were able to shed Ford's "underdog" moniker as soon as all six Ford DP entries touched the Daytona pavement early last week.  They were fast and it proved no fluke once the top starting spot was earned by Dalziel.
 
"It just doesn't get any better in road racing than winning the 50th Running of the Rolex 24 - such a prestigious event," said Doug Yates, Roush Yates CEO. "This was just an amazing accomplishment from everyone at Roush Yates, who had a hand in making these engines perform flawlessly, to the teams and drivers who put their talent on the line and trusted our technology.  This is the 10th year that we have had engines in the Rolex 24, and Roush Yates has stayed committed to making this program better each year.  This was truly our year."
 
In addition to Allmendinger, the winning No. 60 driver roster consisted of IndyCar driver Justin Wilson, John Pew, and Ozz Negri as the team took home the coveted Rolex watches and trophy.
 
A tired and sweating Allmendinger in victory lane said:  "I want to thank everyone at Roush Yates and (DP program manager John) Maddox. Wow, I am so worn out right now ... but this Roush Yates motor was a rocket ship.  Michael puts together great race cars and we owe this to him.  Ford 1-2-3 on the podium ... wow that is absolutely amazing."

Combined with improved Mahle® pistons, the Z363 makes 50 more horsepower and 50 more foot-pounds of torque than the Z347 that it replaces. Nothing but the best parts are used inside, including: forged crankshaft; forged I-beam connecting rods; floating piston pins; and a high-performance oiling system.

Built with the BOSS 302 block and Z304D aluminum heads, Z363 fits many of the vehicles originally built with a 289 or 302 block with 8.2-inch deck height. Ford Racing engineers designed the Z363 to work both on the street and at the strip, with a strong torque curve that delivers more than 390 foot pounds from 3,500 rpm up to the 6,500 rpm redline. With a compression ratio of 10.0:1, Z363 runs on unleaded premium pump gas, and is also available as a short block for those who want to build the engine to their own specifications.

X427 Crate Engine  (p/n M-6007-X427FT/RT)

The company that created the famous 427 FE engine now offers another modern version of the legendary motor. The X427, designed for street use, has joined the Ford Racing Z427 that was introduced in 2010. Fitted with the legendary Ford Racing X-Heads, the X427 delivers 520 foot-pounds of torque. Built on Ford Racing's new BOSS 351 block, this new 427 crate engine is engineered and built to deliver a strong, flat torque curve. That translates into tire-smoking acceleration for street rods, kit cars and muscle cars, and plenty of power and torque for light-duty pickups and SUVs.

5.0L Ti-VCT Aluminator NA  p/n M-6007-A50NA

Ford Racing has taken the 5.0 Mustang GT’s 4-valve V-8 with twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) and created another in its series of "Aluminator" crate engines that deliver even higher performance than before. The 5.0 Aluminator NA, with 11.0:1 compression ratio, is designed specifically for naturally aspirated, high-performance applications. Mahle® forged pistons are hard anodized with Graphal® low-friction coating. The connecting rods are premium Manley® H-beam with ARP® 2000 bolts, and fitted with BOSS 302 high-performance bearings.

The 5.0 Aluminator NA is a direct bolt-in for 2011-12 Mustang GT. It can be used in street rod or resto-mod builds using Ford Racing's 5.0L engine controls pack (M-6017-A504V).

5.0L Ti-VCT Aluminator SC P/N M-6007-A50NSC

This second new offering in Ford Racing's 5.0 Mustang "Aluminator" crate engine line is another modern 5.0-liter, 32-valve DOHC V-8 that uses advanced features like Ti-VCT to deliver big power. This "Aluminator" is built with a 9.5:1 compression ratio, forged pistons and H-beam connecting rods to meet the demands of forced induction applications.

5.0L Ti-VCT Coyote 'Sealed' Racing Engine P/N M-6007-M50S

The popularity of today's Mustang 5.0 "Coyote" engine has led to strong interest by sanctioning bodies to create new spec-racing classes for the engine. These spec engines are the same as the production Mustang GT's 5.0 V-8, and are sealed by Ford Racing to ensure that none of the engine internals are changed.

The first organization to employ these engines will be the National Mustang Racer's Association (NMRA) in a class called, "Coyote Stock." All engines will use a spec engine controller.

 JPC Racing has been on the forefront of the Coyote 5.0L performance market since the 2011 Mustang GT was released nearly two years ago. As of yesterday you can add the First 9-Second Naturally Aspirated Coyote-powered Mustang GT to the thriving shop’s long list of accomplishments. The record breaking run was achieved using a mix of new JPC/RGR engine parts and the many tricks learned through the company’s vast national championship experiences. The deed was performed in a 2011 Mustang GT belonging to longtime JPC customer, Joe Marini.

JPC and Marini are no strangers to the naturally aspirated version of Ford’s latest powerplant. The team had set the benchmark for naturally aspirated combinations earlier this year with a 10.78 at 128 mph but that was done with a mild engine combination. JPC front man, Justin Burcham, is not known to let the grass grow under his feet. A plan was hatched immediately following those 10 second runs. It called for Rich Groh Racing (RGR) to design and build a stroker engine exclusively for JPC—making it one of the first companies to bring a stroker Coyote bullet to the marketplace. The finish product is a 318ci engine that runs, drives, and races. The stroker engine wasn’t the only new set of parts in Marini’s barrier-breaking Mustang. A pair of prototype Stage 2 heads from the JPC/RGR juggernaut is being testing on this bullet. Another new product from JPC/RGR is a pair of custom camshafts—not reground stock sticks but brand-new cores with custom specs. Initial results are favorable as the car laid down 550 rwhp with a mild tune-up. All chassis dyno and track runs were accomplished through a Liberty-modified Tremec TKO-600 transmission.

JPC and RGR are offering short-blocks of standard size and stroker variety as well as complete, turn-key Coyote engines for all applications including boost, nitrous injected, and naturally aspirated.

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 8, 2011 – Bringing new meaning to the term “high speed chase,” Ford announced today it will continue its tradition of using high-profile racing events to show off its new products, only this year with a new twist.

Bringing the field of cars to the green flag at Homestead Miami Speedway for all three Ford Championship Weekend races are Ford’s new Police Interceptors, which will make their debut in the marketplace starting in 2012, and are appearing on the NASCAR circuit for the first time ever.

Ford, the police vehicle market leader for 15 years, specifically designed and engineered all-new Police Interceptors to handle the rigors of police work, including industry-leading powertrain, safety and technology innovations.   That said, these vehicles can more than handle the duties needed to pace the Ford 200, Ford 300 and Ford 400 NASCAR finale events.

Fans will see versions of both new Ford police vehicles – the Police Interceptor Sedan, and the Police Interceptor Utility – on track pacing the races.

The Ford Police Interceptor Utility, the first ever pursuit rated utility by Ford,  will be pursued by the field for all three races on Ford Championship Weekend, serving as the lead pace car. The Sedan, which will serve as the split pace car for the weekend, boasts a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine delivering 365 horsepower and a top speed of 148 mph.

“Police nationwide asked for a new kind of weapon in the battle for public safety, and Ford is answering the call with purpose-built vehicles – engineered and built in America – that are as dynamic as they are durable,” said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas.   

“Having the opportunity to bring our new Police Interceptors to pace what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting final weekends in NASCAR history is a great honor,” said Lisa Teed, brand manager for Ford Police Interceptors.  “Both of the Police Interceptor vehicles provide the highest level of safety, performance, durability, driver convenience and comfort, and we’re excited to be able to show off these new vehicles to the millions of fans on site and watching on national television.”

Ford has been at the forefront of using its NASCAR pace car program to highlight its extensive line of new cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles.  This includes being the first company to have a Hybrid pace the start of a NASCAR race when the Fusion Hybrid led the field to green for the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2009.  In addition, the all-new 2012 Focus, the Mustang GT 5.0L V-8 and all-new 2011 Explorer SUV have served as pace vehicles within the last two years.

About the 2013 Police Interceptor
The new Ford Police Interceptors, both sedan and utility vehicle, can be ordered with a choice of three powerful V6 engines that deliver more horsepower and better fuel economy than the 250-horsepower, 4.6-liter V8 in today’s Crown Victoria police car.

The base 3.5-liter TiVCT V6 engine in the new Police Interceptor sedan is AWD and delivers at least 280 horsepower. Also available in the sedan is Ford’s award-winning EcoBoost™ twin-turbo V6 that will have at least 365 horsepower. The EcoBoost-equipped Police Interceptor comes standard with all-wheel drive that enhances handling and safety during high-speed pursuits. The new Police Interceptor utility model will be powered by a 3.7-liter V6 and features all-wheel drive delivering at least 300 horsepower.

In early testing by police agencies, both new Ford Police Interceptors delivered outstanding performance and won praise for acceleration, handling and braking.   The brakes, tires and wheels have been specially designed for police duty for the next level of performance.   The police unique powertrain calibration and tuning was done in conjunction with EVOC professionals and AWD delivers a confident driving experience for law enforcement.    

Ultimately, Ford's mission was to produce the next generation of Police Vehicles by leveraging the legacy of CVPI safety and reliability and incorporating the latest engineering design and technology to aide law enforcement.  .

Both Ford Police Interceptors will be manufactured at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant.

CARL EDWARDS – No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion – WHAT DID YOU SAY TO TONY WHEN HE DROVE BY. “I just told him ‘good job.’ He did a great job today. Those guys stepped it up and I’m proud of my guys for hanging on and for still having the points lead. At the end of the day, we’re going to the final two races. Although we would have loved to have won today in our Aflac Fusion, to be three points ahead and then to have the third and fourth-place guys farther behind, it looks like it’s truly gonna come down to Tony and I and that’s gonna be a lot of fun.”

WHERE DID YOU COME UP SHORT TODAY? “I think Tony said it there. On that last restart, I think if I could have stayed in front of him, I’d have been able to get him. The restart before that he spun his tires and I felt really good about that one, and he timed it just right on that last restart and hung on my door. I give those guys credit, they’ve done a good job, but now we get to kind of pull out all the stops here. Our Aflac team, we’ve been hanging on. We’re leading these points. We get to pull out all the stops for these last two races and there couldn’t be a better place to finish it than Homestead. I think folks ought to stay tuned. It’s gonna get pretty exciting and I’m just glad Tony and I are out there and we can race for this thing.”

GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 3M Ford Fusion – “We had a pretty good car. I got the car off a little bit on Saturday, I have to admit. I probably didn’t have the right front swaybar in it, a few other things. The car was just real twitchy and hard to drive. I couldn’t drive it at all when the sun was out. When it cooled down and got dark, my car really took off. The last pit stop of the day when you’re trying to make up, that extra little inch made me slid through the box and that probably cost me a third-place finish or a couple of spots anyway. We fought hard and came back and that’s what a championship team is made of – not giving up and fighting back.”

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion – “It’s hard to be disappointed when you run in the top five. I was a little disappointed in our performance. We just dropped the green and we weren’t really that great. We led some in the beginning having the track position and clean air. We kept fighting it, but we just could never get enough rear grip in it off the corner all day and really kind of struggled. So I’m happy to get a top five. I wish we could have performed a little bit better, but that’s all we had. We had great pit stops. Jimmy made great adjustments. I thought we did everything we could possibly do, but we just weren’t fast enough.”

ROUSH FENWAY WAS STRONG TODAY. “This has always been a pretty good track for the organization. You always want to win. It’s fun to be disappointed to be fourth, but all of our stuff seemed to run okay.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER – No. 43 Best Buy Ford Fusion – “That was probably the most comfortable I’ve ever felt on a mile-and-a-half, especially one like this. It was fun. From the start we were just passing cars and making good adjustments. The track was tough because the sun would keep popping out and the track would change a lot, but, overall, I felt like it was definitely the best I’ve ever felt in a car around one of these places. We just got a bad break there on the two tires. We didn’t need that extra caution. I got back into sixth on the restart and we were good, and then the yellow came out and we went backwards after that. It was a good fight to get back to 10th, but, overall and more importantly, that’s something to build on.”

TREVOR BAYNE – No. 21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion – “We had to battle there all day long. We missed it to start the race because the track freed up a lot, but we didn’t really expect it to be that much freer. We knew it would free up a little bit, but we just didn’t adjust enough. And then every time we would make a change the track would change more and we never got ahead of it until the very end. Once it started cooling back off our car was really fast. We had one bad run after the 20 car blew up. I don’t know if we got his oil on our tires or just garbage or something was wrong, but that run we were 14th and I thought we were gonna be able to drive to the top 10 because our car was strong, but it was just slipping and sliding and it drove like a different animal and I fell back to twenty-something. At the end we had a good car again and I was able to rally back to 17th.”

 After day one of the 2011 SEMA show in Las Vegas, team MM&FF has seen some amazing cars and lots of hot parts.
