Beginning in October, Best Buy stores in Texas will conduct a pilot program involving more than 30 Best Buy locations where consumers will be able to experience live SYNC demos and Ford, Lincoln and Mercury customer clinics. The SYNC demos will show participants how their mobile phones can interact with the voice-activated system, while customer clinics will help new Ford customers improve their understanding of SYNC capabilities using their actual phones and vehicles. Local dealers will participate to offer additional expert assistance on SYNC.

“With the ever-changing technology landscape, it was a strategic decision to work with Best Buy to provide our customers another expert resource on the Ford SYNC platform,” said John Felice, general manager, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Marketing. “As we expand the capabilities of SYNC, we will need to educate our customers on the full benefits and expanded services of newly added applications. We couldn’t think of a better way for consumers to learn about new SYNC features than from the experts at Best Buy that they’ve learned to trust.”

Local dealers will remain the primary touch point for consumers interested in purchasing SYNC; however, Best Buy Mobile experts will serve as another resource for consumers looking to learn more about the compatibility of their mobile devices. Under the agreement, Best Buy Mobile associates will provide Ford owners with phone pairing information, helping them get comfortable with SYNC and enabling them to either connect their existing handset or choose a compatible mobile phone.

Best Buy also will include Ford SYNC mobile phone compatibility results in its monthly Best Buy Mobile Buyer’s Guide to identify which of the latest mobile devices work seamlessly with Ford SYNC. The ratings are based on phone compatibility tests conducted by Best Buy’s tech services unit Geek Squad, and are updated frequently. The SYNC ratings can also be found at www.syncmyride.com.

“We have a strong belief that mobile technology should serve people and help them stay connected whether it’s at home, at work or in the car,” said Best Buy Mobile President Shawn Score. “We are excited to partner with Ford to educate consumers on its SYNC technology. Best Buy Mobile helps thousands of consumers every day get connected with mobile devices and services that make their lives better, and now we’re ready to do the same thing for Ford SYNC users.”

National SYNC ad campaign rolls out
Earlier this month, Ford Motor Company launched its new advertising campaign for SYNC, called “SYNC: Say the Word,” to further increase awareness around its current voice-activated applications. The SYNC ads will target young, tech-savvy drivers and appear in various print and online mediums.

“SYNC: Say the Word” will feature robotic “voice agents” that act as personal assistants as voice commands are activated. There will be a total of nine robots that will each showcase the various applications of SYNC including turn-by-turn navigation, 911 Assist, music search, audible text message reading, hands-free calling, business search, Vehicle Health Report, real-time traffic and My Favorites – news, sports, weather.

To complement print advertisements, Ford will also release 30-second video spots with select robotic voice agents to build awareness of how each SYNC application can be activated by simple voice command. The company will also make available a total of 11 instructional videos that highlight each SYNC feature on its redesigned consumer education Web site, which can be found at http://www.fordvehicles.com/innovation/sync/.

“With the cadence of new product releases, we’ve found it is essential to assist our consumers with education on features, benefits and usage,” said Felice. “While very intuitive, we’ve taken a proactive approach to SYNC marketing because it’s important that consumers understand just how SYNC has evolved beyond voice-activated music controls. Through these efforts, Ford has provided a touch point for drivers both online and offline to help maximize their driving experience while staying connected to the information they want, when they want it.”

As SYNC capabilities expand, more experts essential
Ford SYNC seamlessly integrates a variety of technologies such as an onboard text-to-speech engine, a customer’s mobile phone and network, data-over-voice technology, an off-board routing engine and voice portal. Combined, these technologies enable:

Voice dialing allows users to press the “Push to Talk” button on the steering wheel, then say the name of the person they wish to call. SYNC will automatically connect with the names in the mobile phone’s contact list.

Voice control of MP3 devices lets users browse the music collection on a connected digital media player, mobile phone or USB drive by genre, album, artist and song title using simple voice commands, such as “Play Genre Rock,” “Play <artist>” or “Play Track <song title>.”

911 Assist can place a call directly to a local 911 emergency operator in the event of an accident involving the activation of an air bag or, on certain vehicles, the emergency fuel pump shutoff. If an occupant cannot respond, SYNC can deliver a recorded message to the 911 service to alert an operator that a crash has occurred.

Vehicle Health Report gives customers the ability to monitor and manage their vehicle’s health in a single, easy-to-read report and receive important notifications. The report includes diagnostic systems’ statuses, scheduled maintenance, needed repairs from the last dealership visit, and will even alert owners of any open recalls.

Traffic, Directions & Information, SYNC’s newest application, can deliver personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn driving directions and up-to-date information including business listings, news, sports and weather – without the need for a built-in or aftermarket navigation system.

New SYNC applications introduced in 2009 have dramatically expanded the system’s capabilities, and continue to set the standard for ease of use. SYNC allows customers to move seamlessly between their home, car and office, staying connected wherever they go.

This improvement was offset by a decrease in Ford
Credit’s revenue reflecting a decline in receivables.

Ford reduced its Automotive structural costs by $1 billion in the quarter, largely driven by lower manufacturing
and engineering costs, which included benefits from improved productivity, personnel reduction actions
primarily in North America and Europe, and progress on implementing its common global platforms and
product development processes. Through the first nine months, Ford has achieved $4.6 billion in Automotive
structural cost reductions, exceeding its full-year 2009 target of $4 billion.

Ford finished the third quarter with $23.8 billion in Automotive gross cash, compared with $21 billion at the end of
the second quarter of 2009. Automotive operating-related cash flow was $1.3 billion positive during the third
quarter of 2009, an improvement of $2.3 billion from the second quarter 2009. Automotive operating-related cash
flow was $3.4 billion negative during the first nine months.

“The Ford team delivered another solid quarter of results with strong contributions from all our business
regions,” said Lewis Booth, Ford executive vice president and chief financial officer. “Positive cash flow, a
stronger balance sheet and a third quarter operating profit are evidence that Ford is meeting the global
economic challenges.”

For the third quarter of 2009, Ford’s Automotive sector reported a pre-tax operating profit of $446 million,
compared with a pre-tax loss of $2.9 billion a year ago. The improvement primarily reflects favorable net
pricing, structural cost reductions, lower material costs and improved market share, offset partially by
unfavorable exchange and lower industry volumes.

Worldwide Automotive revenue in the third quarter was $27.9 billion, up $100 million from a year ago. The
increase is more than explained by favorable net pricing and higher volumes, primarily in North America,
offset partially by unfavorable exchange. Total vehicle wholesales in the third quarter were 1,232,000,
compared with 1,175,000 units a year ago.

Automotive structural cost reductions in the third quarter totaled $1 billion, including $500 million in North
America. Manufacturing and engineering costs were $500 million lower, largely reflecting the continued
benefits of improved productivity, personnel reduction actions primarily in North America and Europe, and
progress on the implementation of Ford’s common global platforms and product development processes.
Pension and retiree health care costs were lower, reflecting the effect of the UAW Retiree Health Care VEBA
agreement. Overall, Ford reduced Automotive structural costs by $4.6 billion during the first nine months.

Net pricing was $1.9 billion favorable, primarily explained by higher U.S. net pricing, reflecting the success of
new products, a continued disciplined approach on incentives and selective top-line pricing.

North America: For the third quarter, Ford North America reported a pre-tax operating profit of $357 million,
compared with a loss of $2.6 billion a year ago. The improvement was primarily explained by favorable net
pricing, lower material costs, structural cost reductions, favorable series mix and improved market share, offset
partially by unfavorable exchange and lower U.S. industry volume. Third quarter revenue was $13.7 billion, up
from $10.8 billion a year ago.

South America: For the third quarter, Ford South America reported a pre-tax operating profit of $247 million,
compared with a profit of $480 million a year ago. The decrease is more than explained by unfavorable
exchange, primarily in Brazil and Argentina. Third quarter revenue was $2.1 billion, down from $2.7 billion a
year ago.

Europe: For the third quarter, Ford Europe reported a pre-tax operating profit of $193 million, compared with
a profit of $69 million a year ago. The improvement was more than explained by structural cost reductions,
lower material costs and favorable net pricing, offset partially by unfavorable volume and mix and exchange.
Third quarter revenue was $7.6 billion, down from $9.7 billion a year ago.

Asia Pacific Africa: For the third quarter, Ford Asia Pacific Africa reported a pre-tax operating profit of
$27 million, compared with a profit of $4 million a year ago. The increase primarily reflects favorable net
pricing, China joint venture profits, and cost reductions, offset partially by unfavorable exchange. Third quarter
revenue was $1.5 billion, down from *** billion a year ago.

Volvo: Volvo continues to be reported as an ongoing operation. The effects of “held-for-sale” accounting-
related adjustments are reported as special items. For the third quarter, Volvo reported a pre-tax operating loss
of $135 million, compared with a loss of $458 million a year ago. The improvement is more than explained by
continued progress on cost reductions, favorable exchange, and higher volume and mix. Third quarter revenue
was $3 billion, up from $2.9 billion a year ago. Also, as announced last week, Ford confirmed Geely as the
preferred bidder in the ongoing discussions concerning the possible sale of Volvo Cars.

Other Automotive: Other Automotive, which consists primarily of interest and financing-related costs, was a
third quarter pre-tax loss of $243 million.
For the third quarter, the Financial Services sector reported a pre-tax operating profit of $661 million, compared
with a profit of $159 million a year ago.

Ford Motor Credit Company: For the third quarter, Ford Credit reported a pre-tax operating profit of $677
million, compared with a pre-tax profit of $161 million a year ago. The increase primarily reflected lower
residual losses due to higher auction values, and lower provisions for credit losses, offset partially by lower
volume.
Other Financial Services: For the third quarter, Other Financial Services reported a pre-tax operating loss of
$16 million in the third quarter, compared with a loss of $2 million a year ago.

OUTLOOK
Despite the severe global downturn, Ford said it continues to make progress on all four pillars of its plan:
• Aggressively restructure to operate profitably at the current demand and changing model mix
• Accelerate the development of new products that customers want and value
• Finance the plan and improve the balance sheet
• Work together effectively as one team, leveraging Ford’s global assets

Ford said it remains on track to achieve or exceed all of its 2009 financial targets and almost all of its
operational metrics. Ford will also continue to pursue actions to improve its balance sheet.

Ford expects full-year 2009 U.S. industry sales will be about 10.6 million units, consistent with the guidance
previously communicated by the company. In Europe, Ford now expects that full-year industry sales will be
about 15.7 million units, which is higher than its previous guidance.

Ford expects fourth quarter 2009 production to be up compared with year-ago levels and third quarter 2009
production. This increase is to return to planned dealer stock levels and match production with market demand
for Ford products.

Ford now expects full-year Automotive structural cost reductions of about $5 billion, exceeding its full-year
2009 target. These costs were reduced by $4.6 billion through the first nine months. Going forward, Ford
expects structural costs to be relatively stable as the company has largely completed its significant restructuring
actions over the past four years.

The company said it expects full-year U.S. and Europe market share to remain at about the same levels
achieved during the first nine months.

Ford expects Automotive operating-related cash flow to be positive in the fourth quarter, based on the
company’s present planning assumptions.

Ford now expects capital spending of about $5 billion, or slightly less. Capital expenditures through the first
nine months were $3.4 billion; higher projected fourth quarter spending reflects the timing of Ford’s product
launches as the company maintains its product plans.

Ford Credit expects to be profitable in the fourth quarter and for the full-year 2009. Next year, Ford Credit
expects reduced profits based on lower average receivables and the non-recurrence of favorable 2009 factors.

Based on its recent performance and present planning assumptions, Ford is changing its full-year 2011
guidance for total company and North American Automotive operations from being “breakeven or better” to
“solidly profitable” on a pre-tax basis excluding special items, with positive Automotive operating-related
cash flow.

While the company has confidence that the global economy will be improving by 2011, the near-term growth
outlook remains rather uncertain. Looking at 2010, there is a high likelihood of a substantial decrease in
European industry volume as scrappage programs expire. This decrease could more than offset U.S. sales
volumes, which may improve somewhat from this past quarter’s levels.

Ford expects to know more about the state of the global economic recovery and its impact on 2010 auto
industry volumes in the coming months. Early next year, Ford will provide guidance on its 2010 planning
assumptions and operational metrics when the company releases its full-year 2009 results.

“The third quarter is one the entire Ford extended team can be proud of because it proves that our product-led
transformation is working,” Mulally said. “Leading indicators are now showing signs of recovery in all of our
major markets, however, consumer confidence and labor market conditions remain a concern.

“Despite the continued economic headwinds, we remain confident that we have the right plan and are taking the
right actions to transform Ford into a lean company that delivers profitable growth for all our stakeholders,”
Mulally added.

Ford Motor Company, a global automotive industry leader based in Dearborn, Mich., manufactures or
distributes automobiles across six continents. With about 200,000 employees and about 90 plants worldwide,
the company’s brands include Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Volvo. The company provides financial services
through Ford Motor Credit Company. For more information regarding Ford’s products, please visit
www.ford.com.

+ The financial results discussed herein are presented on a preliminary basis; final data will be included in Ford's Quarterly
Report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 30, 2009. “Net income” and “Net loss” herein refer to “Net
income/(loss) attributable to Ford” on our Statement of Operations, reflecting new presentation required by new accounting
standards. 2008 results have been adjusted for the effect of new accounting standards, and for the reclassification of certain
Financial Services sector revenue items. Discussion of overall Automotive cost changes, including structural cost changes
(e.g., manufacturing and engineering, pension/OPEB, overhead, etc.), is at constant exchange and excludes special items and
discontinued operations. In addition, costs that vary directly with production volume, such as material, freight, and warranty
costs, are measured at constant volume and mix. Customers will now have the choice of two V-8 engines in the Raptor, Ford’s proven 5.4-liter Triton V-8 or the new 6.2-liter V-8, which can be ordered beginning Dec. 1, with an MSRP of $41,995 including destination and delivery.

The F-150 SVT Raptor, launched in August with Ford’s proven 320-hp 5.4-liter Triton V-8, is off to a strong start. Orders for the Raptor equipped with the standard 5.4-liter stand at more than 3,000, and the plant is at maximum capacity producing the ultimate high-speed off-road truck. In addition, Ford Racing will soon offer the 2011 FR Raptor XT, making Raptor even more capable in the rough stuff, but without giving up the control and comfort found in the production Raptor.

Considered an off-road-only pre-runner, the FR Raptor XT from Ford Racing builds upon the production Raptor’s already impressive capabilities. The FR Raptor XT is nearly the same truck that finished the 2008 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, but with all the comfort and convenience you’d find in a production Raptor. In honor of the SEMA introduction, Ford Racing built and unveiled a one-of-a-kind “SEMA Special” silver Cobra Jet complete with a charcoal Cobra Jet graphics package.

“The 2008 Cobra Jet was a great car, it did everything we wanted it to do,” said Brian Wolfe, director, Ford North American Motorsports. “We’re really proud of the car, but then again we’re always trying to make the next one better.

“With the 2010 Cobra Jet, we had the luxury of a longer development cycle and the result is absolutely stunning. Where the 2008 Cobra Jet was an extremely potent starting point for NHRA Stock competition, the 2010 will enhance the car further. We are all excited to see the new Cobra Jet in competition.”
For decades, the Mustang has been the preeminent car in many forms of racing, including drag racing. The 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang added to that legacy this season with high- profile wins at the NHRA Winternationals and U.S. Nationals, and by setting numerous track records across the country.
The 2010 Cobra Jet, like its predecessor, is a factory-built race car that is intended for NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing. The goal for the 2010 Cobra Jet was to enhance the race features to further make its own place in NHRA history. The 2010 CJ will come with all of the features of the 2008 car with enhancements that include options for a full race-prepared automatic or manual transmission, drag race-specific shocks and springs, manual steering and brakes, 8.50 certified rollcage, and an Aeromitive return-style fuel system with trunk-mounted fuel cell.
Additionally Ford Racing engineers have developed for the 2010 Cobra Jet a factory-first launch control/rev limiter that will allow drivers to preset the rpm after they stage the car. When they are ready to leave, all they do is put the throttle pedal to the floor; they don’t have the engine speed to free rev. Previously, the launch control/rev limiter was only available as an aftermarket option.
Much like Ford Racing’s previous Mustang FR500S race car, the Cobra Jet Mustang will get its start at the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant in Flat Rock, Mich. The entire 50-car run of 2010 Cobra Jets will be built on the same production line that produces the 2010 Ford Mustang production car. Production of Cobra Jets will commence in January, with delivery of all vehicles expected in the first quarter of 2010.
All of the additional parts and pieces for the CJ can be found in the Ford Performance Parts catalog. And since the Cobra Jet is produced from a base V-6 Mustang, any consumer can turn his Mustang into a Cobra Jet by purchasing the parts from the Ford Performance Parts catalog.
The 2010 CJ car features a choice for customers between two supercharged engines or three normally aspirated engines (pending NHRA approval). These options will allow the Cobra Jet to be eligible for more classes in the NHRA, as well as competition with other sanctioning bodies, including NMRA, NMCA, PSCA and IHRA.
All 50 of the 2010 Cobra Jet Mustangs have already been ordered by Ford dealers for delivery to customers. For those customers who missed out on the limited run of 2010 Cobra Jets, Ford Racing has set a goal to provide future versions of the Cobra Jet.

Roush also has a long and successful motorsports history with the first of his numerous championships coming in drag racing. And today, Roush is finding great success in engineering, building and selling alternative fuel vehicles to the fleet markets.

So what do you get when you combine all three of these things? A pair of propane-fueled ROUSH® Mustang drag cars, ready to challenge for the NMRA championship next season.

The drag cars are an offshoot of the kits that ROUSH® Performance uses to convert gasoline-powered Ford pickups and vans to run on clean-burning propane. As a leader in the development of green technologies for the automotive industry, Roush sees several benefits in using propane as a “right here, right now” alternative fuel; he cites facts such as propane is the third most popular motor fuel (behind gasoline and diesel), and there are already more than 12 million propane-fueled vehicles on roads across the world.

On the topic of propane, Roush said, “It’s as American as NASCAR. More than 90 percent of the propane used in the United States is produced in North America, much of it from the U.S. natural gas supply. Propane has so many positive aspects and it is finally getting the recognition it deserves as an alternative fuel. Propane can help to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. Propane can help to clean up our environment. And propane can help to create new ‘Green Collar Jobs’ for displaced auto workers who can return to the lines to build alternative fuel vehicles.”

And as a green fuel, on average propane fleet vehicles reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 19 percent and create 20 percent fewer nitrogen oxides, up to 60 percent less carbon monoxide, and fewer particulate emissions, as compared to gasoline. From an economic standpoint, propane used as a motor fuel can be purchased for about one dollar per gallon with applicable federal incentives.

But, one advantage that propane has, especially in a drag racing application, is that it has an octane rating of 106 (premium unleaded is typically around 93 octane). The first car being developed is a 2005 ROUSH Stage 3™ Mustang which will be driven by Donnie Bowles and expected to be testing in mid-November. The ROUSH engineering team is also building a 2010 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang for Susan Roush-McClenaghan which should debut in February. This is Roush’s daughter who is adding the next chapters to her father’s legendary history in drag racing.

McClenaghan finished third in the NMRA Modular Muscle class this year, with Bowles one place higher. In NMCA Open Comp competition, they switched positions with Bowles finishing the season in second and McClenaghan third so both are highly skilled pilots.

Both cars will use an all-aluminum 5.4L, V-8 Ford engine that was originally designed for the Ford GT supercar. This engine will be converted to be naturally-aspirated, the compression ratio will be altered to 12.5:1, and several other changes will be required to run on liquid propane. These include CNC ported cylinder heads, high performance camshaft and valvetrain, and a wet sump lubrication system. All these changes should help this engine generate in excess of 600 horsepower.

Despite popular misconceptions, propane is actually very safe to use as a motor fuel and has a significantly lower flammability than gasoline. It is also good in cool or hot weather making it ideal for motorsports applications.

Bowles car will be on display at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas from November 3-5. It can be seen outside at the Cruisin’ Legends lot with the Ford Mustang corral.

Based in Livonia, Mich., “The Art of Performance Engineering” takes place at ROUSH Performance. This is a class that features the most technologically-advanced, small-block Ford engines around, assembled by the best builders on the planet. During the course of the 2009 season, Bowles has been immersed in a points battle with the 2008 class champion, fellow Roush Competition Engines customer Robbie Blankenship. This battle came down to the final event of the year, as Bowles started to find his groove with the ’72 Maverick he debuted at the season-opening race.

Thanks to the Roush Competition Engines-built power between the frame rails, Bowles consistently found himself at- or near- the top of the qualifying ladder, and this event was no exception. Three-time class champion Charlie Booze Jr. took the top spot with an 8.59, but Bowles ended the three qualifying sessions with a strong 8.66 to land in second, setting himself up well for the elimination rounds. He faced off against Keith Courtney in the first round of competition, and improved to an 8.62 to take the win, well ahead of Courtney’s 8.73 pass. Then, in the second round of competition, Don came up against “Bangin’ Bob” Hanlon, one of the quicker racers in the class. Although Hanlon got moving first with a .033 reaction time to Don’s .053, at the top end, it was all Bowles, as he crossed the stripe with an 8.63 to Hanlon’s 8.73, an eerie reminder of round one versus Courtney. One of the next pairs up on the starting line was Blankenship and Max Gross, who is typically deadly on the tree. Gross not only treed Blankenship, he also pulled an 8.62 out of his hat to finish Blankenship’s title hopes, and clinch the 2009 Hot Street Championship for Don Bowles – his first since the championship he won in NHRA’s Modified Eliminator class back in 1980. However, the race wasn’t over. Bowles had a bye run straight into the final round, where he met up with number one qualifier Booze. Booze showed why he was a three-time champion in the class, strapping a killer .015 reaction time on Don, then outrunning him to the finish line to earn the event win.

Both Donnie Bowles and Susan Roush-McClenaghan came into this event with an opportunity to take the championship in their class, the Roush Performance-sponsored Modular Muscle class. Modular Muscle is a class that focuses on Ford’s Modular powerplant that can be installed in any Ford-bodied vehicle for competition. The qualifying is based on reaction time, and the toughest racers in the NMRA call this class their home. To clarify, a .040 reaction time was only good for 14th on the ladder, showing the dedication these racers put into their cars.

As qualifying progressed, Susan turned in a .008 reaction time, which placed her fifth on the ladder. Reggie Burnette Jr., the other racer in the points chase, then threw down a .004 reaction time, only to be eclipsed by Donnie’s .003 final qualifying pass to set the ladder heading into Sunday’s eliminations. Donnie took advantage of his first-round bye to check out the track surface, while Susan advanced easily when her first-round opponent broke out, keeping everyone’s championship hopes alive heading into the second round. There, Susan saw her title hopes evaporate at the hands of Georgia’s Gary Parker, who ran closer to the number to eliminate her. However, Donnie was still in it after eliminating Brad Phoenix in an incredibly close race - a scant 0.006 second difference at the stripe. In the third round of competition it all unraveled, as Parker then turned around and eliminated Donnie from the weekend’s race, along with quashing his class championship hopes. Nevertheless, it was still an excellent season showing for the Roush Drag Racing Team – one Championship and a number two and three points finish, respectively.

The Roush Drag Team carries sponsorship from 3M, Valvoline, Mickey
Thompson and Roush.

Nelms will use his new Ford F-150 and the $250,000 to complete work on a new community center to store food and feed families.

"Ford's generous donation will provide our organization with the assets needed to help finish construction on one convenient, centralized location where families in need receive assistance," said Nelms. "We ran out of room at our church where we've been storing items for the Food Pantry. Our new facility will now have the storage space to accommodate our supply, and the new F-150 can handle the tough job of hauling food items continuously throughout each month."

Connie Fontaine, Ford manager, Brand Content and Alliances, says Nelms is the type of hard-working hero Ford envisioned as the winner of the Heroes campaign. "He's dedicated to helping those in his community," she said. "He will use the truck and the donation to significantly expand that work."

Hero with a heart
Nelms has been an active member of the Titus County community since he moved to Mount Pleasant 35 years ago. During last year's Christmas season, he organized more than 250 bell ringers for the Salvation Army Red Kettle program and helped provide nearly 2,000 children with Christmas gifts through the Empty Stocking program. On an ongoing basis, Nelms distributes 715 backpacks a week to low-income families through the Backpack program.

Nelms was nominated by Michelle Woodruff of Titus County Cares. Woodruff wrote in her entry, "Gordon has a huge heart for the needs of our community. He is literally on call 24/7 for the Police and Fire Departments for the homeless or people stranded in our area. He is constantly picking up people in his own vehicle who are stranded, homeless and in need of safe shelter or a hot meal. Gordon drives an older sedan that is really not large enough to accommodate his needs for the various projects he does. A larger, more reliable vehicle would help out immensely when transporting the large amount of food items."

Marquardt is a master automotive technician with an L1 certification and a certified service consultant. Training is important to Marquardt, as evidenced by his own automotive education and his leadership to educate others. All three of the full-time technicians at his shop are ASE Master Automotive Technicians. Also, his business is a AAA Approved Auto Repair Facility and an ASE Blue Seal of Excellence Shop.

“Marquardt has been recognized for his dedication to our industry and impressive community involvement by the judging panel of ASE, trade press, university and aftermarket industry association representatives,” said NAPA President Bob Susor. “Marquardt is very deserving of this honor and represents NAPA and our industry well.”

With more than 30 years experience in the automotive industry, Marquardt got his start working after school at a gas station. He began working full-time at the station in 1979 and purchased the business in 1990 with his wife, Karen. In 1994, they removed the tanks to focus the operation on auto repair and expanded the business in 1995. At that time, they decided that aligning with a strong brand and supplier was important to future success, so Marquardt joined the NAPA AutoCare program. Since then, he has maximized his partnership with NAPA by utilizing NAPA programs and AutoCare enhancements to drive car count and increase the bottom line.

Marquardt is also involved in his community. He has served as president of the local Jaycees, district director for the state of Wisconsin Jaycees, head instructor for a non-profit martial arts school and a member of the Northwood’s Aviation Association. As a part-time pilot, Marquardt educated local Boy Scouts about basic flight instruction and mechanics of flight.

Marquardt currently resides in Rhinelander, Wis. with his wife, Karen.

Steele is the parts specialist at Adams County Auto Supply in Gettysburg, Penn., which is one of three stores owned by Sam Shafer, Brad Shafer and Carol Witthoff. Steele is the eleventh individual to receive this national recognition award, which is presented annually to an outstanding automotive parts specialist within the NAPA system.

Steele, an ASE parts specialist in the Automobile Parts (P2) category, has dedicated his career to the automotive industry. Through the summers and during high school, he worked alongside his dad learning the service business. At age 18, Steele became a full-time partner and helped manage the operation. His strong passion for the business lead him to buy-out his father in 1990 and turn Steele’s Sales and Service into a NAPA AutoCare Center. In 2006, Steele joined Adams County Auto Supply and made a career change to the parts side of the business as a way to stay involved in the industry and use his expertise in the automotive aftermarket.

In addition to Steele’s dedication to the automotive industry, he is also very involved in family activities and the community. He has coached local youth basketball, baseball and football teams and serves as the vice president of the New Windsor Recreation Council, a position he’s held for seven years. Steele is also president of the VFW Post 8806 Men’s Auxiliary and organizes charity events for the group.

Steele currently resides in Union Bridge, Md. with his wife, Linda, sons William and Christopher and step-children Collin and Caely.

The EcoBoost V-6 produces 355 horsepower (365 hp in the Taurus SHO) and 350 ft.-lb. of torque.

Ford has recently announced the first four-cylinder EcoBoost engines, launching in global applications beginning next year. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4 first arrives in Europe, followed by the 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 launching on products in both Europe and North America.

Going forward, Ford will shift its powertrain strategy to be built around EcoBoost technology. Under the new system:
• A 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 would replace naturally aspirated V-8 engines
• A 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 would replace naturally aspirated V-6 engines
• A 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4 would replace naturally aspirated large I-4 engines

Following the launches of the new EcoBoost I-4s will be the extension of the 3.5-liter V-6 to the first rear-wheel-drive configuration in the F-150 pickup truck late next year. Another global application, the Ford Falcon sedan in Australia, will receive a rear-wheel-drive version of the 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 in 2011.

The fun-to-drive nature of EcoBoost engines is leading Ford to introduce these fuel-saving powertrains in large volumes virtually across its lineup. For example, by 2013 more than 90 percent of Ford’s North American lineup will be available with EcoBoost technology, and nearly 80 percent of Ford’s global nameplates will have an available EcoBoost option.

By 2013, global EcoBoost volume throughout the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicle family is expected to be 1.3 million units, with up to 750,000 sales coming from North America alone.

’34 Ford EcoBoost hot rod project
Detroit Street Rods’ latest build is a 1934 Ford and is a joint venture with Ford Motor Company and Experi-metal. In this ’34 application, the EcoBoost engine is configured for rear-wheel drive and is coupled with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission.

“The decision to use the EcoBoost engine for our powertrain on this project was an easy one in that it gave us the opportunity to combine the iconic ’34 Ford sculpted body lines with the advanced technology of the EcoBoost powerplant,” stated Robert Smith, president of Detroit Street Rods. “The result is the perfect hot rod marriage of advanced technology for power and legendary automobile design.”

While the stock Honeywell turbochargers that drive the EcoBoost engine are used, they were repackaged to fit the engine bay of this all-steel replica body. The engine configuration and turbocharger packaging was dynamometer tested by Ford Powertrain for proper calibration of the engine electronic control module (ECM). In addition to the all-stock engine, other components including the fuel pump, ECM, fuel pump module, fuel pump processor and drive-by-wire throttle were utilized in their original production configuration.

The body is from Steve’s Auto Restoration and is the recently released 1934 Ford 3-Window coupe. The complete body and fenders are from brand-new tooling, and are designed, stamped and manufactured by Experi-metal in Sterling Heights, Mich. This “replica” ’34 features all-steel construction, full fenders, running boards, electronic power windows, air conditioning and custom bumpers.

The engine was repackaged and fitted with an engine plate adapter to mate with an aluminum flywheel, performance clutch and a Tremec TKO five-speed transmission. The turbochargers were repositioned to the front of the cylinder heads and custom aluminum tubing was used to route the air from the custom air cleaner through the air-to-air intercooler. The exhaust gases are routed from the cylinder heads through coated headers, through the stock wastegates, and pass through large custom exhaust cones located outside the engine bay and just above the front fenders.

Kaase allows that displacement beyond 521 cubic inches include a race-oriented cylinder block equipped with 4-bolt main bearing caps.

The 10.30-inch deck height block receives a cast crankshaft in the 460ci version (600hp). Engines with 521ci and beyond are founded on a 4340 steel crankshaft joined with 4340 forged connecting rods and Diamond forged pistons. For complicity with pump gas, the compression ratio is usually limited to 11.0:1 or less. Kaase caps the short-block with new aluminum cylinder heads fitted with stainless steel swirl-polish 2.30-inch intake and 1.90-inch exhaust valves activated by WW Engineering 1.75:1 aluminum roller rocker arms.

Though the rather large round intake, D-shaped exhaust ports, and marginal cam specs of the original 429 hampered low-speed response, the multiple cam phasing applied to Kaase’s Boss Nine engines has completely eliminated this problem. Customers also have the option of a hydraulic or solid roller camshaft. Bear in mind that the 521ci version produces approximately 770 horsepower and 730 foot-pounds of torque with a hydraulic roller cam. Boss Nine engines are fitted with a single-plane intake manifold for a 4150 or 4500 style carburetor.

Imagine a Boss Nine singing beneath the bonnet of your street rod, rat rod, or ’54 Merc. SEF94 contains no ethanol, making it a much more dependable and cost effective solution. The unique properties of SEF94 also make it an excellent long-term storage fuel, allowing quick starts even after equipment sits idle for many months.

“SEF94 is the most dependable fuel on the market to help ensure equipment will start when it’s needed at work, play or in an emergency,” Kelly added. “Outdoorsmen, farmers, loggers, landscapers, emergency workers, rural homeowners and many others know what it’s like to deal with a tool that won’t work when needed and the inconvenience of costly rebuilds, but with SEF94 that frustration will be a thing of the past.”

SEF94 is for use in portable power equipment only. It is not a street legal fuel, therefore should not be used in a motor vehicle of any kind.

To purchase SEF94 direct, to find the nearest dealer or distributor, or inquire about becoming one, contact VP at 210.635.7744 or SEF94@vpracingfuels.com.

VP Racing Fuels is best known as the world leader in race fuel technology, fueling winners in virtually every category of motorsports on land, sea and air. VP is the Official Fuel of National Hot Rod Association Championship Drag Racing, American LeMans, IHRA, ADRL, Super DIRTcar, World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and World of Outlaws Late Models among more than 50 VP-sponsored racing series and sanctioning bodies.

In addition to celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, the iconic pony car has won two series championships already and is positioned to possibly win championship titles in NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Funny Car Series, SCCA Speed World Challenge GT Series, and Formula Drift Professional Drifting Championship Series.

GRAND-AM KONI CHALLENGE
For the second consecutive year, the Ford Mustang FR500C swept the triple crown of the Grand Am KONI Challenge, winning team, driver and manufacturers' championships. Ken Wilden claimed the driver and Wilden and his teammate Dean Martin captured the team title for Rehagen Racing with a sixth place finish at the season-ending Bosch Engineering Octoberfest at Virginia International Raceway. The championship was the first for Wilden and the Rehagen Racing team.

"We took over the points lead by the second race," said Ken Wilden. "Our performance has been solid and consistent. The Mustang has been a phenomenal car. It feels good to win the championship. It's been 13 years since my last championship, and it's been a while since I've been in a car that I could say I could win one in."

Bret Seafuse and James Gue drove their JBS Motorsports Ford Mustang GT to victory at VIR and in doing so jumped Ford to the top of the manufacturers' standings, edging BMW by four points (348-344) to help Ford capture back-to-back manufacturers' titles. Ford Mustangs dominated the 2009 KONI Challenge, winning five races and finishing on the podium in eight of the eleven races.

NHRA
With three races remaining in the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing series, six of the 10 drivers eligible for the Countdown to 1 playoff run pilot Mustangs. Carrying the Blue Oval and the pony car into championship run are 14-time champion John Force, Ashley Force Hood, Robert Hight, Mike Neff, Bob Tasca III and Tim Wilkerson. The Ford Mustang drivers have hoisted the coveted Wally Trophy in six out of the last seven races. Heading into Richmond this weekend, Force Hood sits atop the points standings while Hight is a close second, Tasca remains in sixth while Force, Wilkerson and Neff occupy the seventh through ninth positions, respectively.

Hight said it best after clinching the final spot in NHRA's Countdown to 1, "I'm excited that six of the top 10 are Ford Mustangs and, you know what, one of us ought to win this championship."

SCCA SPEED WORLD CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP GT SERIES
SCCA Speed World Championship GT Series Mustang driver Brandon Davis is leading the point standings with only one race to left in his season. Davis needs to finish sixth or better in the last race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend to win the Speed World Challenge GT Championship. In his last outing at Road Atlanta, Davis raced in the new 2010 Mustang and hopes to capture the title in the latest model.

"We are optimistic going into the final round, but the fact is, it's not over yet," said Davis. "We're very aware of that, and we'll be celebrating afterwards hopefully, but for right now, we're still focused on the task at hand."

FORD RACING MUSTANG CHALLENGE FOR THE MILLER CUP
One Mustang driver, Andrew Caddell, has already claimed his 2009 championship when he took the checkered flag at Miller Motorsports Park two weeks ago. Caddell is now the two-time Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series champion. Caddell successful defended his inaugural Mustang Challenge title despite fierce competition from Ted Anthony Jr.

"We won the first race of the year, and then we struggled after that. After the Barber Motorsports Park and the 45th Anniversary of the Mustang, we took the car to the dyno and found that we were 12 horsepower down. We changed the motor, and once we did that, the rest of the season went great," said Caddell. "We won in New Jersey, we finished second at Laguna and then we finished the season off with another win. It was just a great year."

FORMULA DRIFT PROFESSIONAL DRIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP
One of the most recognizable cars in the Formula Drifting Professional Drifting Championship Series is the Falken Mustang driven by Vaughn Gittin Jr. Gittin sits third in series standings with one race left in the season. The last round in the series takes place October 16th-17th at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California.

OTHER MUSTANGS
Brent Hajek and his Hajek Motorsports stable of '08 Cobra Jet Mustangs have made a significant impact at the dragstrips in 2009, including winning the season-opening NHRA Winternationals in the car's debut. Hajek Motorsports also took an E-85 Mustang to Talladega earlier this year where Bill Elliott set a closed course speed record for an E-85 powered car. Next up on the on the horizon for Hajek Motorsports, a land speed record attempt in an E-85 powered 2010 Mustang at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats.

They are ceasing in-house engine assembly at their casting works in Ronkonkoma, NY and opening the door of opportunity to a network of engine building shops across the country who would like to participate in their new engine-building program.

How the Program Works

When the consumer decides to purchase a new engine, he or she consults the Worldcastings.com website, first to choose from a large selection of proven combinations and, second to select an engine builder from the Directory of participating engine builders. The consumer, for the first time, can shop for price from all the listed builders and has the option of selecting a local company from the contact information provided.

The participating engine builder then logs onto the Engine Builder page of the World website and searches for the best deal available from the participating warehouse distributors. The warehouse distributors not only provide the World block, heads, and intake castings but also the 75 to 80 line items required to complete the new engine build. In addition, World Products promotes the participating engine builders on the WorldCastings.com website and provides them with a Bill of Materials and Engine Build sheet, including all dynamometer tests results.

Perhaps the principal incentive for the engine builders in this new program is the encouraging prospect of growth; the hot street market, with which World Products is so familiar, supports 500-600 engine builds per year. As a further stimulus World Products are introducing a rebate program and will also actively promote the participating engine builders at WorldCastings.com website.

World Products has sold thousands of small-block and big-block engines for Chevrolets, Fords, and Mopars and has over 10,000 documented dyno tests. All of this information will be available to the participating engine builders.

World will be signing up participating warehouses and engine builders through November and the process will be on-going. Website contact loading has already begun. For further information contact World Products at 631/981-1918 or visit www.worldcastings.com.
