On Saturday April 4, 2009, the staff of MM&FF headed out to Hernando County Airport in Brooksville, Florida to tackle the cones and put Nitto's NT05 maximum performance radial tires to the test for a day of autocrossing.
The day started bright and early as we rolled Superfly into the Hernando County Airport. The test and tune event was put on by the Florida Corvette Racing Club who is nice enough to open its test and tune events to all makes and models. Superfly, MM&FF's '97 Cobra project car, was one of five Mustangs in attendance among a slew of Corvettes, Minis, and other vehicles ready to tear up the runway.
The day was a great success. Superfly consistently ripped off 56-second lap times. Although it wasn't the fastest time of the event, it was a very respectable time for an N/A '97 Cobra on a real street tire.
Among the Corvettes, Minis, and Evos, there were a bunch of Mustangs that put forth a solid showing all day. Elliott Nethero came out with his Kenne Bell supercharged, IRS, '03 Mach 1, Scott Clark with his Dark Shadow Grey '03 Cobra, and Jeff Giradello with his silver '98 GT. These guys turned some seriously fast times and put on quite an impressive show.
All in all we had a great day with the Florida Corvette Racing Club and MM&FF would like to thank them for letting us come out and play at the airport.
