Hmmm, what is it? We can tell you with confidence that this version of Ford's experimental V-8 sports 7.0 liters and makes about 800 hp in naturally aspirated trim.

Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3 Experimental Ford Engine E85 Fuel
Don is in the energy business and quite supportive of E85 fuel. He runs it in all of his race cars and has done so for the past few years.

Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3 Experimental Ford Engine Dual Injectors
Dual fuel injectors per cylinder inject massive amounts of E85 fuel into this thirsty experimental engine.
Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3 Experimental Ford Engine Launching
Don Bowles competes in NMRA Open Comp with his Roush-prepped Mustang. His best time with the experimental bullet is a 9.10 at 145 mph. The Mark Williams 9-inch rearend has been filled with 40-spline axles, a spool, and 4.56 gears. Roush built this car to withstand a serious amount of horsepower, as it will be used to test many different engine combinations.

The experimental engine uses eight individual throttle bodies with short, individual runners for each cylinder.
Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3 Experimental Ford Engine The Team
The team keeps an eye on the FAST computer system after every run and makes adjustments to keep the estimated 800-horse engine running strong.
Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3 Experimental Ford Engine Engine Bay
Don Bowles teamed up with Ford Motor Company and Roush Performance to bring an experimental V-8 engine to NMRA action. The team is flogging the new powerplant and providing real-world feedback to Ford engineers. We speculate this engine will be found under the hoods of several different Ford vehicles, including trucks and possibly Mustangs. Ford Racing Performance Parts is also involved in the project, meaning there could be aftermarket parts readily available when Ford releases it.

The interior is stripped down, and all that's left are the essentials. A 12-point rollcage protects Don as well as stiffens this Roush Mustang.
