With the retro styling of the S197 Mustang, now more than ever it's easier to envision the high-performance models of the musclecar era coming back for a second go-around, this time with more power, more refinement, more efficiency, and best of all, more fun. Thanks to Bo Zolland and his company, Vizualtech (www.viztech.se; mail@viztech.se), we were able to come up with some really cool con-cepts to get our minds-and hopefully those at Ford Motor company-turning.
The S197 body style just begs... The S197 body style just begs for retro Mustang models like this Mach I. You could build it yourself with many of the aftermarket parts out these days, but we'd like to see Ford offer it with a hopped-up, normally aspirated 5.4 and optional 4.10 rear gears. | Your author was hooked on... Your author was hooked on this rendition, which was one of the first that Zolland had sent us. A vintage Trans Am look combined with some G-machine bling is just the ticket. | A Bullitt version is a given,... A Bullitt version is a given, but maybe this time we could switch up the color palette a bit. Eighteen-inch Torque-Thrust-type wheels and maybe the Handling Performance and Performance Pacs from Ford Racing Performance Parts should do the trick. |
Vizualtech provides custom design and visualization media to race teams, customization shops, automotive enthusiast publications, as well as advertising agencies. It also offers in-depth technical illustrations and text.
Taillights on the Mustang... Taillights on the Mustang have changed numerous times over the years. It may be only a matter of time before Ford turns the lights on their sides. We also like the blackout treatment to the rear filler panel, which is available now from several manufacturers. | Clean and mean in Lime Green,... Clean and mean in Lime Green, this Boss version takes cues from the Shelby and Mach 1 Mustangs with everything coming together very nicely. | For the traditional hot-rodding... For the traditional hot-rodding types, we have this Roots-style-blown racer. While it's not exactly something you might expect from the Blue Oval, it gives you an idea of what can be done by the aftermarket and the enthusiast. |
Vizualtech owner Bo Zolland e-mailed us some time ago concerning a Ford F-100 project he was working on, and while we don't cover the older makes and models too much, we thought it would be neat to see some new incarnations of some old classics based on the S197 Mustang platform.
Recently, Ford partnered with Hertz and Shelby to produce the Shelby GT-H, a reincarnation of the Hertz Rent-A-Racer from the '60s. Ford and Shelby then paired up again for the GT and GT500 Mustangs, and the Blue Oval also released the California Special package, another throwback to the musclecar era.
While the '01 Bullitt Mustangs... While the '01 Bullitt Mustangs were offered in Dark Highland Green, Black, and True Blue, maybe this time around we could see a Mineral Gray or silver, some dark shade of red, and even white. | The Shinoda family owns the... The Shinoda family owns the rights to the Boss name and is currently producing their own "Boss" Mustang. As good as their version is, we like the clean Boss 429 look of this Mustang. The grille treatment is also a great touch. | Here's A different take on... Here's A different take on the Mach 1. Equip it with FRPP's Performance and Drag Pacs, or the 5.4-liter. |
We heard from Ford that these were the first in a series of "feature cars," and new president and CEO of Ford Motor Company Alan Mulally recently confirmed the Bullitt Mustang for 2008. As Mustang enthusiasts, we're never satisfied, so we've conjured up a few more ideas. Hopefully, FMC can make good on some of our concepts.
