This 2013 Mustang GT is about as show-stopping as it gets, and for Bojix Design and its team out of Duarte, California, it's more than just a piece of eye candy.
Bojix Design is a family-operated automotive design company owned by two brothers, Haro and George Derkrikorian. Having opened Bojix in 2010, its team has over 25 years of experience, specializing in Ford products such as the Fiesta and Focus ST. Bojix has developed a reputation over the past three years for its innovation and unique color contrast amongst its builds. The Stang you see here is a perfect example.
"Bojix Design was my younger brother George's idea," Haro explained to us. "We started out building a Ford Fiesta. We originally contacted Ford about trying to purchase one before they were released, but that didn't happen. So, my brother purchased one immediately once it was available. We started building parts for it, and when Ford heard about this, we were able to develop a close relationship."
Unfortunately, in April 2012, tragedy struck. Haro's brother George, the artist behind each build, lost his life due to a drunk driver. However, even after this misfortune, Haro sought to continue what his brother and he started.
"The company was my brother's baby," Haro said. "George always wanted to get his hands on a new 5.0L Mustang and show the world what Bojix could do. So once he passed, I took it as a sign and wanted to make it happen. Ford was great with helping me find a car to purchase with exactly the options I wanted. I can't thank them enough."
What was the goal for Haro and the Bojix team? Attend the SEMA autoshow. And Bojix wouldn't be just building one car for SEMA—it was building two. Naturally, the balance between building the Mustang GT and a Focus ST was laborious. Having only purchased the Stang in June, Haro and his team had four months to complete both builds.
According to Haro, Procharger asked to include the Mustang at its booth at SEMA once it saw the renderings. Procharger also installed one of its P-1SC Stage 2 kits. With word spreading of Bojix's unique design, other major advertisers like Recaro, MRT Performance, 3M, and Ford Racing Performance Parts leaped at the chance to participate.
You might me wondering what exactly was done to this tricked-out Pony. Aside from the Procharger blower, the Bojix team has replaced the stock suspension with an Eibach Pro-R2 coilover kit. The body color retains the factory Grabber Blue paint scheme, but with orange accents throughout, and a carbon-fiber racing stripe down the middle. Rennen M10 concave wheels wrapped in Nitto tires are in all four corners, painted a custom orange to match with the exterior body accents. Inside, a Laguna Seca X-brace and rear seat delete have been added as well.
According to Haro, "We are known for coming up with crazy spot colors, and for the wheels, I knew this was something my brother would have done," he told us. "When it came down to the what-would-he-do aspect of certain things, it was always difficult making a decision. I didn't have him here anymore to make those decisions—he always had the eye for that kind of stuff."
Having attended SEMA, the Mustang was a huge attention grabber. Even the Focus ST won a design award. After a furious and exhausting four months to build two cars, the Bojix team had created something very exciting.
"I had a strong attachment to the build because of my brother," Haro told us. "I knew we had to get this done. We were full-throttle the whole way through the build. In some ways we were fueled by a different kind of fire."
