Think you're a hardcore Ford... Think you're a hardcore Ford fanatic? Allen Walker qualifies based on his notchback and Ford V-8 tattoo. We have to give special thanks to Jim Averil of Tremec Transmissions, who wheeled the rental car during the True Street cruise so we could get some great action photos. Nathan Cooper of LaPorte,... Nathan Cooper of LaPorte, Texas, placed Third in True Street with a 10.26-secnd average, which was good enough to take the low-10-second prize. Angel Padilla of San Antonio,... Angel Padilla of San Antonio, Texas, was behind the wheels of Joel Cura's twin-turbocharged coupe. During the cruise, the distributor rotor came loose; it only averaged a 10.80 over it's three runs, but still qualified for the Lone Star shootout on Sunday. On Sunday, Padilla and Cura... On Sunday, Padilla and Cura sorted out the distributor issue with the turbocharged notchback, and the car laid down an 8.20, 8.18, and 8.19 to put Padilla in the final against Bryan Bromley of Gretna, Louisiana. Bromley did everything right from cutting the light to posting a stout 9.01 e.t., but Padilla's 331-powered '93 coupe powered past him with an 8.30. Padilla sure put together a nice ride for Joel Cura (who was competing in his other coupe, a low-10-second ride), and we think it may just be the quickest, at least consistently, True Street ride of all time. It takeS a brave soul to run... It takeS a brave soul to run a Ford Escort in True Street, but Jonathan Rubio of Cleburne, Texas, did just that. His '89 Escort GT averaged 18.90 seconds, the slowest in the field, but it did end up ahead of 16 others that were disqualified or couldn't finish. Despite having several faster... Despite having several faster cars in the class, as well as technical problems of his own, Pensacola, Florida's Chris Escobar posted an 8.96-second average with his twin-turbocharged, modular-powered SVO Mustang to take home his 10th True Street crown.
