Jarrett Halfacre got crossed... Jarrett Halfacre got crossed up in the lights during test and tune after running 7.45 at 195 mph. Unfortunately, wind disrupted the parachute and dragged the car into the wall. The body scuffed the concrete barrier and blew out the windshield. Nevertheless, they banged out the body, replaced the windshield, and came back to qualify number one with a 7.45 at 195 mph. Halfacre lost to John Urist on a hole shot during the semifinal round of eliminations, 7.51 to Urist's 7.52. A new face in the Factory... A new face in the Factory Stock final round was Alan Cann of Cudahy, Wisconsin, who drove a '93 Mustang LX that was consistently in the mid-to-high-11s. Cann spun in the finals and lost to Jeff Schmell. The Super Bowl race has become... The Super Bowl race has become one of the most prestigious events of the year. Racers put their cars on kill in hopes of posting the quickest times and winning the glory and money. Sometimes they push things too far-case in point is Dwayne James (center), who kicked out the head gaskets during qualifying in his turbocharged Super Street Outlaw entry. Winner Ben Mens (near lane)... Winner Ben Mens (near lane) jumped way too early in the final round of Hot Street. His red-light start handed Charlie Booze Jr. (far lane) the automatic victory. Booze motored to the win with an 8.86 at 153-mph pass. Winner John Urist (near lane)... Winner John Urist (near lane) lined up against Billy Glidden as NMRA Super Street Outlaw took on NMCA Super Street 10.5. It was a long road to the finals and the Super Bowl round for Urist as he broke the engine during qualifying and the team thrashed all night to fix it. They got it together and were lucky during eliminations when Sam Vincent broke a driveshaft and Urist putted down the track with zero oil pressure. The engine survived, and a clogged filter was to blame. Urist then took out Jarrett Halfacre in the semis with a 7.52 and beat Zach Posey in the finals with a 7.55. He lost to Glidden in the Super Bowl bonus round. Drag Radial racer John Kolivas... Drag Radial racer John Kolivas marched to a class win and a Super Bowl victory with his turbocharged '98 Cobra. The Stang benefited from a Precision 85mm turbo on top of a Bennett Racing engine. Kolivas took advantage of a 3,150-pound minimum weight for the 85mm turbo combo and ran 8.09 at 173 mph. Drag Radial runner-up Kevin... Drag Radial runner-up Kevin Fiscus boiled the BFGoodrich hides in his '03 Mach 1. The turbocharged car set high mph for the event with a stellar 177 mph clip and went as fast as 8.10. Fiscus employs a 360ci engine with an 88mm turbocharger. Former MM&FF Tech Editor Johnny... Former MM&FF Tech Editor Johnny Hunkins was on the prowl for Popular Hot Rodding. We razzed him a bit for selling Project Excalibur and buying a Brand-X car with the loot. Michael Hauf (left) and his... Michael Hauf (left) and his father, John (right), warmed up their 812ci engine in preparation for final-round action. The mountain-motor, big-block Ford engine features Hemi heads, a sheetmetal intake, and no power adders. It pushes the team's Mustang to mid-six-second times at 210 mph. | NMRA-Keystone Drag Racing Series Results | | Class | Name | ET/MPH | R/T | | DiabloSport Pro 5.0 | Winner - Tony Bischoff | 6.54/210 | 0.041 | | Runner-Up - Michael Hauf | 6.65/210 | -0.128 | | MSD Super Street Outlaw | Winner - John Urist | 7.55/189 | 0.053 | | Runner-Up - Zack Posey | 7.67/185 | -0.020 | | BFGoodrich Drag Radial | Winner - John Kolivas | 8.10/173 | 0.073 | | Runner-Up - Kevin Fiscus | 8.47/174 | 0.115 | | ProCharger EFI-Renegade | Winner - Brian Mitchell | 12.82/82 | 0.201 | | Runner-Up - Tony Orts | Broke | Broke | | Edelbrock Hot Street | Winner - Charlie Booze Jr. | 8.86/153 | 0.367 | | Runner-Up - Ben Mens | Foul | Foul | | Real Street | Winner - Bruce Hemminger | 9.86/139 | 0.090 | | Runner-Up - Jim Breese | 9.91/136 | 0.048 | | Tremec Pure Street | Winner - Ron Anderson | 10.35/126 | 0.042 | | Runner-Up - Jimmy Wilson | 10.34/130 | -0.001 | | K&N Filters Factory Stock | Winner - Jeffery Schmell | 11.51/117 | 0.097 | | Runner-Up - Alan Cann | 12.07/112 | 0.122 | | Crane Cams Open Comp | Winner - Andy Blackmon | 10.82/125 | 0.107 | | Runner-Up - Rodney Adams | 9.68/138 | 0.239 | | Detroit Locker Truck & Lightning | Winner - Dave Cole | 11.13/106 | 0.081 | | Runner-Up - Ray Johnson | Broke | Broke | | Roush Performance Mod Muscle | Winner - Brandon Peterson | 12.66/106 | 0.062 | | Runner-Up - Mike Zamboni | 10.11/133 | -0.042 |
