89 Mustang
Winner
Sam Vincent saw nothing but sky when he launched his '89 Mustang LX in Super Street Outlaw competition. He hurled down the quarter-mile in only 7.47 seconds, which was the low e.t. of the class for the weekend. Vincent defeated Don Burton in the final round of competition. His teal coupe is powered by a 432ci small-block Ford with Brodix heads and three stages of nitrous from Nitrous Express.

Mechanic Chic

86 Gt
Winner
It has been a long time coming-Joel Howard grabbed a win in the tough EFI-Renegade ranks. The nitrous-powered '86 GT is a former MM&FF True Street winner, and Howard has continually tweaked his car every year for more than a decade. The result is a class-legal ride that ran in the 8.70s all weekend long. Renegade racers are restricted to 0.550-inch lift camshafts, street-style heads and intakes, as well as stock suspension.

Roush Racing
Don Bowles and Roush Racing have been working with Ford Racing Performance Parts to develop a new V-8 engine. There was little information about the specifics of this engine at press time, but it appears to be a modular engine that definitely packs some serious cubic inches. How much? Nobody knows. This new engine pushed Bowles to low-nine-second times in naturally aspirated trim.
03 Cobra
Winner
Twin turbos have dominated the Vortech Outlaw 10.5 category this year. Brian Carpenter hauled his gorgeous '03 Cobra from Minnesota to compete in the class. He saved the best for last as he nailed down a 7.17 at 206 mph to take the win over hometown favorite Greg Blevins. Carpenter relies on a Steve Petty-built 417ci engine with two 88mm Precision turbochargers.
86 Mustang Lx
Winner
Roush Racing's head engine builder, Ben Mens, handled the driving chores in Mike DeMayo Sr.'s sinister '89 Mustang LX. The 400ci engine wears a set of Edelbrock Victor-Glidden cylinder heads, a Super Victor intake, and a tricked-out 750-cfm carburetor. Mens ran 8.85 to beat Robert Blankenship's 8.88 effort.
