This Mustang was right at... This Mustang was right at home at the Performance Racing Industry show. It features a Ford engine with giant turbos from Turbonetics, runs on alcohol, and makes in excess of 2,000 hp. We found it in the Electromotive EFI booth. Racers live to race-that's a fact, and when each season ends, they gear up and make plans for the coming season. Many think about a new class they'll run or a new engine combination or camshaft they'd like to try. With that, many hit the busy convention season during the fall and early winter months. Most of our readers have heard of the SEMA show in Las Vegas. At SEMA, the industry rolls out the most tricked-out rides and pretty ladies to attract showgoers. The show is awesome, and we love it. Then there's the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show the following month, held in Orlando, Florida. While PRI doesn't have the glamour or glitz of SEMA, it's quickly becoming the best place to see the latest and greatest speed parts for Mustangs. At PRI, you'll find a hard-core mix of racing and performance parts, some from companies you may have never heard of. The MM&FF staff was in full force at the '06 PRI show to check out the hot new parts on display. We were hit with all kinds of goodies, from new piston designs to Two-Valve intake manifolds. We cruised the 1,000,000-square-foot facility and checked out 1,400 companies to see what they had to offer the Mustang community. It's a great pleasure to report that once again the Mustang aftermarket dominated the new-product offerings. Check out the next few pages to see the hottest parts and the coolest cars that filled the scenery at the '06 PRI show. Ford Racing Performance Parts... Ford Racing Performance Parts had a strong presence in Orlando. It was celebrating a new line of modular and pushrod crate engines as well as several new parts and engine components. The engine pictured is based on a Boss block and was punched out to 331 ci (4.125-inch bore and 3.100-inch stroke). The Boss 331, as FRPP refers to it, produces 500 hp. The Man O' War should be available sometime in the spring. For more informa-tion: www.worldcastings.com. Steeda Autosports had so many... Steeda Autosports had so many new parts that we couldn't fit them all in this story. Here's a shot of the new struts for '05-up Mustangs. The struts are designed for use on the street as well as the track. They enable you to lower your Mustang without the fear of failure experienced with the factory mounts in that type of application. For more information: www.steeda.com. Billy Glidden parked his 6-second... Billy Glidden parked his 6-second Outlaw 10.5 ride in the Bassani Xhaust booth. He was fresh off a win at the Bradenton Snowbird Nationals, where the car ripped off a best of 6.95 at 198 mph. In testing after the event, he went 6.83 at 202 with the Mickey Thompson 33x10.5W tires out back. Glidden took home the NMCA Super Street championship in 2006 with this Mustang. For more information: www.bassani.com. Is your S197 making an enormous... Is your S197 making an enormous amount of power? It might be time to upgrade the rearend to something a little more beefy. Currie Enterprises offers a direct bolt-in 9-inch rearend. The brackets are welded in place using a jig to ensure an easy fit. The rearend comes with Currie axles and heavy-duty axle bearings. This rearend allows virtually any gear size, from 2.47:1 to 7.33:1 ratios. It's easy to install, has quick third-member swaps, and is the strongest rearend size on the market. The factory ABS system and disc brakes bolt on, as do aftermarket disc brakes. Factory, Currie, or other aftermarket control arms install without any modifications. SCT had the LiveWire handheld tuner on display and used the GT to attract showgoers. Tony Gonyon of HP Performance told us about the new Al Pappitto-built 5.4L engine in the trunk. It has Champion-ported Four-Valve heads, mild Crane camshafts, CP pistons, and Carrillo rods. Gonyon had the engine singing to the tune of 1,320 hp and 1,453 hp on the juice. The 90mm MAF sensor was maxed out on those runs, preventing them from making more power. A new 115mm MAF sensor housing has been installed, and Gonyon expects the GT to pick up 100 hp off the nitrous. For more information: www.hp-performance.com, www.turbofordgt.com, www.sctflash.com. A revolutionary new product... A revolutionary new product for nitrous users is Carnivore's Nitrousaurus-X. It is a nitrous pressure-control system that encloses your nitrous bottle and maintains a constant pressure. This container cools or heats the nitrous bottle to within 1 degree of the set temperature and draws less than 5 amps to do so. The mounting system is NHRA legal. It uses the "set and forget" method of control. You can sit in the staging lanes and not worry about your bottle pressure-the Nitrousaurus-X will maintain a constant pressure. For more information: www.gotsqueeze.com. The big news out of Comp Cams'... The big news out of Comp Cams' FAST division was a Three-Valve intake manifold. It's still in the develop-ment stages, but FAST expects the final version to be completed soon. The intake manifold is made from polymer and is a three-piece unit. Its taller height helped the FAST engineers design larger runners. Initial testing reports of a 30-40hp gain and complete results will be released soon when the final version is produced. For more information: www.fuelairspark.com or www.compcams.com. The Shelby GT500 might have... The Shelby GT500 might have been on the market only a short time, but the parts are flying to the marketplace. Vortech Superchargers was showing off its Shelby kit, which is based on the reversed-rotation YSi-Trim supercharger and huffs boost into the factory air-to-water intercooler using a custom bonnet supplied in the kit. This was the public's first look at the system, and Vortech plans to start shipping kits sometime in 2007. For more information: www.vortechsuperchargers.com. The Steeda Q335 Club Racer... The Steeda Q335 Club Racer was sitting pretty in the Nitto Tire booth. It was designed by Steeda engineers to excel on the dragstrip, the road coarse, and the street. Nitto threw on its NT01 road racing tires, which made this Mustang the car to beat at several open-track events. Steeda offers this Stang as a turnkey ride, or you can order the Club Racer package and Ultimate Power Pack for your Mustang. Club Racers feature a jump in horsepower and a host of track-proven suspension, braking, and aerodynamic upgrades. For more information: www.steeda.com. In addition to the aluminum... In addition to the aluminum small-block, World Products had a few other new parts on display. There were two new cylinder heads perched on top of the block. World is hitting the market with a new street head dubbed the Man O' War 18-degree cylinder head. It comes in two different sizes-200 cc (2.02 and 1.60 valves) and 235 cc (2.10 and 1.625 valves). The combustion chambers are offered in 64cc or 72cc sizes. The other head is a killer inline-valve cylinder head that is nameless right now, but on occasion has been referred to as the Man O' War Windsor. It features a 10-degree valve angle, 2.250-inch intake valves, and 1.625-inch exhaust valves. The head bolts to the Man O' War block using six bolts per cylinder-the first of its kind. It comes in 255cc or 275cc runners. Estimated airflow on the intake side is in excess of 400 cfm. It also has raised intake and exhaust ports. For more information: www.worldcastings.com. Former Pro 5.0 competitor... Former Pro 5.0 competitor Brandon Switzer has opened a nitrous company with multitime Pro Modified champions Shannon Jenkins and Mike Castellana. Switzer hasn't forgotten his roots in the Mustang market and designed this system for '05-up Mustangs. It features an rpm window switch to turn the nitrous on and off. Speedtech also offers other nitrous systems for many different applications, from Pro Modified down to the daily driver. For more information: www.speedtechnitrous.com. As usual, the new products'... As usual, the new products' section in the Edelbrock booth was crowded with new releases from one of the industry's oldest manu-facturers. Among the parts was a carburetor-type manifold designated for the Two-Valve modular crowd. The Victor Jr. intake comes in two configurations: EFI-ready, with Edelbrock's 11/42-inch fuel rails and injector bungs installed in the runners, or for carburetor applications. Expect a tech feature on this intake manifold in the coming months. For more information: www.edelbrock.com. PRI was our first peek at... PRI was our first peek at Livernois Motorsports' Stage 2 Three-Valve cylinder heads. Designed as replacements for stock or modified engines, these heads flow some serious air. They have a 225cc intake runner that flows 283 cfm while the exhaust moves 203 cfm. The valves have been changed to 34 mm (intakes) and 37.5 mm (exhaust). For more information: www.livernoismotorsports.com. TurbochargerS HAVE dominated... TurbochargerS HAVE dominated the Outlaw racing scene for the past few years. Precision Turbo has been one of the manufacturers helping to keep the turbo cars ahead of the competition. This year, Precision hit the market with a demented 114mm turbocharger. On a properly sized engine, it should produce somewhere in the 2,300-2,500hp range with just one of those units. Two of those turbos on top of a 700-plus-horsepower big-block engine could bring new meaning to the word excess. For more information: www.precisionturbo.net. Probe Industries is expanding... Probe Industries is expanding its product line with new piston designs. This is a 302 piston that is lightweight and budget-minded. Owner Chris Huff also showed us a few different modular engine pistons, including Three-Valve-specific ones. For more information: www.probeindustries.com. Chris Alston's Chassisworks... Chris Alston's Chassisworks designed this 9-inch rearend to bolt into Fox-body Mustangs. The housing comes in a variety of configurations and has all the bells and whistles attached to it. The optional antisway bar is welded underneath the housing and is mounted inverted when compared to traditional antisway bar setups. We assure you it works just as well. There are provisions to add aftermarket coilover shocks, and the rearend is pictured with VariShock adjustable units. Alston had his new upper and lower control arms bolted to this housing. They feature large Heim joints and heavy-duty construction to withstand the rigors of high horsepower and torque in heavyweight vehicles. For more information: www.cachassisworks.com. Kooks Custom Headers is keeping... Kooks Custom Headers is keeping up with the market with its long-tube headers and matching x pipe system (with optional catalytic converters) for the Shelby GT500. The headers and x pipe system are made of stainless steel. Primary tubes measure 131/44 inches while the collectors and x pipe system are 3 inches. For more information: www.kookscustomheaders.com. We've always been fans of... We've always been fans of Canton Racing Products. Its parts fit well and are aesthetically pleasing. Here is the drop-in coolant tank for '03-'04 Cobras, '99-'04 Lightnings, and '02-'04 Harley Davidson F-150s. It is a replacement tank for the aftercooler's water and ice. It fits in place of the battery, which must be relocated. The tank's higher capacity allows for more ice and water-helping drop the air charge temps on the dragstrip or the street. For more information: www.cantonracingproducts.com. Currie Enterprises has mostly... Currie Enterprises has mostly been known for its bolt-in rearend housings, but the company offers a complete line of suspension components as well. Here are the Currectrac control arms for the S197 Mustangs. The sturdy control arms come with greaseable ends and urethane bushings. For more information: www.currieenterprises.com. Ctek boasts about having the... Ctek boasts about having the smartest battery chargers in the world, and we don't doubt it after its representative, Ron Piasecki, went through the features of the Multi US 3300. This charger was designed for long-term charging, making it ideal to charge your Mustang's battery over the winter months while it hibernates in the garage. It is fully automatic, so just set it and forget it. We also liked the fact that you could leave the battery hooked up without hurting on-board electronics. For more information: www.ctek.com. Jesel ValvetraIN knows how... Jesel ValvetraIN knows how to impress even the most hard-core crowd. Its shaft rocker-arm system is bolted on to a wild, billet SBF cylinder head. We didn't know what to look at first-the fancy rocker arms or the Ultra Pro billet heads. The heads are made from billet aluminum and carved out using a five-axis CNC machine. The race-only heads have water jackets, which is an amazing accomplishment since the machining is so complicated. It is a process that can only be duplicated by a select few CNC specialty shops. The heads flow 457 cfm (intake) and 290 cfm (exhaust) at 0.850 lift. The rocker arms are Jesel J2K and are standard equipment on Nextel Cup engines. For more information: www.jeselonline.com and www.ultrapromachining.com. Ford Racing Performance Parts... Ford Racing Performance Parts brought all sorts of neat rides, and we loved the FR500C (shown) in blue. This factory-built hot rod has made a lot of noise on racetracks across the United States and abroad. The car looks so great that we wish Ford would come out with a street version and bring back the "R" moniker that has been missing since 2000. We can see ourselves cruising around in a Shelby GT500-R with a carbon-fiber front splitter and sweet-looking wheels. For more information: www.fordracingparts.com. John Gullett had his record-setting... John Gullett had his record-setting Pro 5.0 Mustang on the property. The tube-chassis Mustang rolls down the quarter-mile with a sick, twin-turbocharged engine from Al Moody Racing Engines. The small-block Ford engine wears a pair of Yates heads and runs two 88mm turbochargers from Turbonetics. Gullett throws the gears in a five-speed Lenco transmission. Dan Parker is responsible for converting the chassis from an IHRA Pro Stocker to a low-6-second Pro 5.0 car. Best time to date has been 6.36 at 226 mph. Gullett has a new Escort that is scheduled to run in the NHRA Pro Modified ranks with a big-block and larger turbos. Expected times are in the low 6s or maybe even the high 5-second zone. The heat is coming on strong... The heat is coming on strong from the LS-series crowd, and more cubes from your modular engine is a sure way to stay ahead of the competition. Livernois Motorsports has a variety of rotating assemblies, and this particular crank, rod, and piston combo is a stroker kit for 4.6L engines. The crankshaft is a forged unit, and the rods come from Manley. The pistons are manufactured by Mahle and built to Livernois' specs. Kits are available for Two-Valve, Three-Valve, and Four-Valve engines. For more information: www.livernoismotorsports.com. As expected, BBK displayed... As expected, BBK displayed many new products, mostly for '05-up Mustangs. One interesting item was a throttle body that didn't require computer tuning. A shiny, new intake manifold cover was also on display. BBK included an assortment of shorty and long-tube headers for '05-'07 Stangs. The headers are available in various sizes and coatings. For more information: www.bbkperformance.com. John Nobile elected to have... John Nobile elected to have his '07 Mustang GT's first public appearance at PRI. The car was built to compete in IHRA Pro Stock, where Nobile won the championship in 2005. It has an 814ci engine from Jon Kaase Racing Engines, and RJ Race Cars built the new ride. Nobile had his low-six-second warrior in the Ram Clutches booth. For more information: www.ramclutches.com.
